Anyone know a home remedy for cleaning an oven?.. something non-toxic!?
I can't handle the chemicles from most oven cleaners but need to get it cleaned from the last time I cooked bacon...
Thanks!
BTW: I don't have a self-cleaning oven or wouldn't ask the question!
Okay, I'm trying the vinegar thing right now. I'll rate the answers when done!

Put a bowl of vinegar in the bottom of your oven while it is still hot...let it stay until it cools down where you can touch it comfortably...the ick should just wipe out....

In a bowl, put 2 cups Ammonia and in a wider bowl, like a cake pan, put boiling water. Now put the ammonia on the top rack of the oven and the water on the bottom. Heat the oven to 200 degrees, then shut off. You can leave this in there with the oven OFF for a few hours to overnight, it will loosen the stains and make it easy to wipe out. Make sure to turn the oven OFF before leaving everything in there.
Important!! Make sure to STAND BACK when opening the oven door after doing this!! This is because of the smell of the ammonia.
Whatever this method doesn't get in stains, you can make a paste to clean it with. Put some baking soda in a bowl(use an amount equal to the cleaning job you're doing, big job, use more) add a little ammonia at a time and stir until you have a paste, keep adding and stirring to make the paste. Now, with a scrubbing sponge, dip it in the mixture and rub, then wipe with the smooth side of the sponge. Now put undiluted white vinegar on the scrubbing sponge, work it in and wipe out, your oven will be spotless!
You can also pour salt on spilled food in the oven to stop it from smoking and odors, remove with a spatula the next day.

put neat white vinegar on a cloth and wipe the whole oven.leave for ten mins then wipe clean for a fresh grease free oven.to clean the glass door just spray wd40 all over the door .leave for ten mins then rinse off for a shiny grease free door, Finally the oven racks spray also with wd40 and leave for ten mins then wash off the grease and see them shine.wd40 will protect your door and racks from getting too greasy next time. To keep your oven grease free just make a solution in a spray bottle of 50% white vinegar and 50% water and just spray every day no need to rinse off .
hope this helps.

Put in a bowel of water, switch on the oven to get the steam going and then switch off the oven and leave overnight, this will loosen the grime without using chemicals. Or you could use Bicarbonate of Soda in water to do so, either are safe non chemical methods.

One other thing you can do is pack wet soapy rags against the soil to keep it moist. Leave it overnight and it will soften the soil so you can scrub it off relatively easy..
