Should a dept out side of the police dept {Internal Affairs] be set up to investigate crooked cops?
It seems that cops ivestigating cops just does not work examples are Serpico and the recent trial of the 3 cops involed in the Frank Jude beating case in Milwaukee Wi {the cops got away with it} There should be aan agency that has no ties to the police dept doing these investigationns with out any knowledge by the dept being investigated

Nobody hates a dirty cop more than an honest one.
I think having outsiders investigate is a great idea.
Kind of a civilian review/investigative board. It would have to be made up of members of the community and possibly an attorney or someone with some legal expertise to be able to define what constitutes a criminal offense-- to those unfamiliar with the penal code and code of criminal procedures.

Ummm, from what I am told no cop likes any cop that is in the IS dept, because they are tough on them.
I think in the long run, the outcome would be the same.
It not much different than some of our current day and recent past trials of murderers, etc. The jury just didn't feel there was enough evidence to convict, they had a doubt in their minds as to the guilt because something was lacking.
IA looks at it much the same way, I think. They really are not your friend and cops won't even hang out with their brothers from IA. They hate each other......because IA has a tough job and that's getting the bad cops.
Maybe it doesn't always work....but I think it's okay and the result would be the same as to someone not affiliated with them would be. The difference though is , that a cop is a cop, they know what's acceptable and what's not, and what normal procedure would be in a given situation. The type of people you might be talking about would have to have the street experience and training in order to make an informed and fair determination.

I don't know much about what I'm talking about, but I believe the buck stops with the FBI. They can investigate state police departments, and I suppose the state can investigate a jurisdiction's police department if they think it's crooked. But the FBI might just do that anyway. I'm not sure, but if the FBI is crooked, I suppose there's nothing anyone could do, because the buck stops there, as far as the police hierarchy goes.
Hey, it could happen, it does in other countries. But the US has been pretty good at keeping its police honest...

I think that's a great idea. In nyc there were many crooked cops in the mafia, and they killed many other cops that were honest and commited other crimes. Many cops are able to take advantage of their power, and that not right
