Why do otherwise Intelligent people believe that there is a god?
Shouldn't people be responsible for themselves without depending on some invisible, imaginary being? If you are sucessful,it's because of your own hard work. Why would you give the credit to an imaginary being?

Believing in God and being saved has nothing to do with a lack of responsibility, in fact, we are called to a very high degree of accountability for our actions. We are "given" credit for all the good we do, and we are held accountable for all the bad we do eventually. That "imaginary being" healed me and healed others that I know. That's one powerful "imagination."

Part of having knowledge is knowing you will never know anything. Look back at how knowledge has grown through history. At one point is it was stupid and dangerous to thing the world wasn't flat. Were the believers of a round earth stupid or wrong? Just because you can't prove something exist doesn't make it not real. Love is an invisible thing is it real...how does someone know it exist they feel it inside them and the people that believe in God feel God inside them, just because there are people adamantly against because they haven't feel it doesn't make it any less correct...or denote its nonexistence. Believing in something bigger and better than you doesn't take away from your works or your success. There have been a lot of successful people with faith just as there were people without faith.

Three things that are always truly constant -
Father - Son - Holy Ghost
I ask the Lord to bless you, as I pray for you today;
to guide you and protect you, as you go along your way.
God's love is always with you, God's promises are true.
Pay close attention to the three things that are never certain. One of these things, success, is what "otherwise Intelligent people" believe comes from the help of a higher being, or God. Success comes from hard work and determination, and as you have already said, they come from things that make up people. Success does not make up people, it is acquired by chance. People look to God to help them achieve success because it is not certain. This is called faith. Faith is the reason that people believe in God. Things that cannot be explained rationally are explainable through him and his work. A majority of scientists in the world have accepted the fact that there is a higher being of some kind. Too many things cannot be explained with out this presence of a supreme being. One of these things is success. Why is it that one person achieves success and another does not? It is just as likely for one person to succeed as another, so what makes that one person so lucky? "otherwise Intelligent people" know that God has blessed them and given them an opportunity that would otherwise be unachievable without his help. A simple answer to your question is that people all across the world feel that their life is incomplete that something is missing and that faith that someone is always there for them brings comfort to them in the hardest of times and the worst of days.

Looking around you, do you actually believe that everything you see was created by some cosmic accident? Do you really take everything that much for granted?
So many different flowers and plants that grow, which rely on so many different insects to thrive. So many creatures that rely on all of these insects. And man, who relies on both the plants and creatures. Water and air allow all living beings to live and breathe. Everything can procreate, i.e. make replicas of themselves from NOTHING...what a coincidence!
Yes, there are "defects" in this huge computer program that we call life, but it sure as heck wasn't designed and implemented by freak accident. A higher power was responsible. I don't understand how any intelligent being could think otherwise.

Success in this life isn't everything. It's what lies ahead that counts. One does not have to be "unintelligent" to believe in a God. The air we breath, the food we eat, are all gifts from God. If He wanted to God could shake us off the face of the earth like a bad case of fleas. But He doesn't because we're His creation and He loves us. We literally cannot do a single thing without His help whether we know it or not. Can YOU give air to someone who has died? Can YOU bring them back to life? Can you create a human life from the dust of the earth, a living, intelligent being? God is real and alive and He loves you dearly.

Yep I agree it's called faith. Besides a clear sign of intelligence is knowing that you know so little. There are so many things that science cannot explain and just digging for answers is enough to drive people crazy (trust behind every theory there are 10 more unresolved issues).
God is the solution to our problems.

My motto has always been "religion is for the weak of spirit". They doubt their own strengths and they doubt the strengths of the rest of humanity. Believing in something does help people though. Gives them a purpose. Helps them be less depressed. I have a friend who believes in God, but God to them is just the collective spirit of mankind. Also i know people who need religion. Without it they are lost. I dont really believe that "religion is for the weak of spirt" but you have to be pretty strong to enjoy the fact that we are all incredibly small short-lived creatures in an infinate universe. Or just have the right state of mind, people need to quit being afraid, were all too sane.

Belief in a higher power has nothing to do with who you give credit to for "your own hard work."
My own belief is based on the realization that the sophisticated makeup of everything in the universe is so complicated that I don't believe there is no one behind the creation of it.

I think it gives people someone to blame when things go bad. But if it gives you hope no matter how dumb it may sound it cant be all bad. We use to believe in Santa the tooth fairy Easter bunny as kids do you remember how bad you felt when you found out they were not real. Some people need something to believe in no matter how small or unreal they or it may seem.

well it is true that we are self-made in that we can work to reach our own personal goals and that we can make what we want to of ourselves. we are responsible for our actions and what we do with our lives, but without God we wouldnt even be here, able to attempt that at all. God has given us free will and the ability to reach for our goals and strive for success. so yes, you are successful bc of your hard work, but God gave you the passion and drive for success in the first place, so overall he should get the credit.
