The Pledge of Allegiance?

As a European, I was wondering, Do kids in American schools still say the Pledge of Allegiance every day?

Whether the answer is yes or no, do you think that this is a good thing?

Is it a good thing to drum allegiance to anything, (much less a flag or a nation) parrot fashion, into kids of that age?

Do you think that America STILL stands for "liberty and justice for all"

I'm not in America but in Canada kids do have to stand solemnly and sing - or pretend to - and listen to the Canadian National Anthem everyday before starting class.

A Romanian friend of mine hates it : it reminds her of her childhood under Communist Romania. She has to hurry after dropping her kids to school and hates it when she is told to just stand there until it finishes..EVERYBODY has to stop whatever they are doing and stand in respect...

Versions of the Pledge: (changes between versions; for reason of the changes, please see the History section)

    1892 to 1923:

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."

    1923 to 1954:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."

    1954 to Present:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."

Not realy some kids dont even know it!

SChools do it les often now..

No. Most schools don't have their kids say the Pledge. I think it's wrong. This country is the best, and these left wing liberal morons are ruining it for the people who hold our traditions dear. America always will stand for liberty and justice for all....that is if you are a legal citizen, which is very very fair.

I think kids should not be taught to believe in anything, not love of country, or love of justice, or love of anything. They should never try to strive for any future ideal in spite of present shortcomings. They should be taught to quite and complain, and make people think how smart they are for not believeing in anything.

Plus, they should just read Noam Chomsky, and mope around all day being negheads, never believing in the goodness of anything, and only espousing the subversive geopolitical processes that are infiltrating us all. Plus, they should try to convince themselves that they are actually good people for doing this and they have the capacity to love, all the while knowing they are too afraid to even risk love.

And the kids who don't listen, will give them more prozac and ritalin, and make them read more noam chomsky.

If the school you go to gets ANY kind of federal or state funding then you should say it. It's a slap in the face if you don't. If you go to private school that gets no funding at all then do what you want.
