Alice White - Merlot - 1998
30-50 dollar range depending on year.
It's my favorite (and most expensive) "crowd pleaser."

Work your way through the $20.00 and under ones and spend some time learning different grapes and producers. This way you will find one you like and develop your palate. If you buy an expensive bottle now it will be a waste as you won't have the background to appreciate what makes it 100.00 and it would probably still taste the same as the cheap ones to you.

best thing for you to do is to taste wines blind. buy 5 bottles of wine (ranging from $10 - $100) and invite some friends over. have someone that doesn't drink put paper bags over the bottles and number them. pour a small taste of each wine and go through all 5 bottles. discuss and vote which ones you like best and why. if you're as inexperienced in wine as you sound my money says you don't pick the $100 bottle as the best.

just because you did not like it means that it is "cheap"
if you don't like red wine a very expensive bottle will not taste good nor will a "cheap" bottle
I personally like Australian wines.
Yellow Label was a favourite of my groups of friends for a while but I have grown a bit tired of it, I am looking forward to what other people suggest.

I work at a restaurant that serves some pretty good wines, all under $100. Although, the restaurant has the cheapest prices I ever seen even out of NYC. My advice is to ask the ones in the know. Most restaurant have a sommelier or someone who performs those duties on staff.

I choose a brilliant Bordeaux, from a reserve if conceivable. I many times in basic terms drink pink wine, usually organic and organic without sulphites. once a three hundred and sixty 5 days i'd have a caesar, a daquiri, or a mudslide.

Anything from L'ecole #41 (link below). I'd recommend their Merlot or their Recess Red most of all but everything they make is wonderful.
