What the heck of a Crap name is "wii"?
I liked the revelution name much better. There is no way I'm calling it "wii" does anybody agree?
I'm still getting it, but I was just curious if anybody liked the other name better.

You gotta remember that the name Revolution (which does sound better in my opinion) was only the code name for the new nameless Nintendo console.
I think that the name Wii is a good choice because, after all, that is the sound kids make when they're having fun. It could also denote size (Wee-small).
I think this name will stick, and eventually, I may like it. Just give it a chance.

Oh yeah. That dude Gelery above me plagiarized those words from a statement by Nintendo. Those are the words they uttered when explaining the new name. Here's the link proving this:

Don't give him the points, and I hope you give them to me for uncovering his fraudulent actions.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."
Nintendo spells "Wii" with two "i"s to create an image of players gathering together. The spelling also is intended to invoke the controllers the Wii uses.[6

Yeah, it's a wuss of a name. Revolution sounded better, even though it wasn't an original name. Nintendo markets to little kids, Wii will fit right in there for them. Maybe they will sign that teen golfing phenom Michelle Wie as an endorser =P

they couldn't keep the name revolution because that is too difficult for japanese to pronounce. Wii is simple and easy to remember and has a slight bit of meaning to it. the two i's are supposed to represent multiplayer I have heard, or the way the controller is. I'm not too big into the name either, but the name is not what matters to me. What matters to me are the games.

i think nintendo's going philosophical here. they were the first who brought video gaming to households, it revolutionized and created a whole new videogaming lifestyle. now with the name "wii", i think it aspires to relive what nintendo had created 20 years ago. with its controller, an unrivalled backwards compatibility, it will surely make gaming more diverse as it is.
by diverse i mean either through the new genres it would create and the new gamers that might be attracted to wii. i showed the revolution trailer to a bunch of my non-gaming friends and they were really impressed by it. i can imagine how others would feel.
in sum, i dont think wii is something like google or yahoo, coz they both mean nothing. wii makes people think that wii are playing, not you, me, or our friends. wii are playing the games that we love. :)

I'm sure back when the Xbox came out people were saying the same thing about THAT name...Regardless, it's not the name, it's the games that make the system good or not.
