Personally, i would go for violin. It has always been one of my favourite instruments. Good violins look beautiful as well as having a rich tone. My violin is over 100 years old and has a lovely mellow tone (especially with a good set of strings).

For me, a good violin is something to be treasured and passed on, but never sold. Violins are individual and each has its own characteristics just like those who play them. Violins have a history and improve with age and good playing. there are many violins that are over 100 years old, some dating back to the 17th century.

I am a violinist. I've played vioin for over 10 years (since I was 7). I'll never play professionally, but I will never stop playing. It's too much part of who I am.

    So yes, the violin.

  • Depends on what you like and want to play...Why not both?

Violins and Mandolin are tuned and play the same. (Yes you bow one and pick the other) but the notes are in the same spot.

On the other hand the bottom 4 strings of a guitar (you count from the bottom of the neck up...don't know why) are the same as a bass guitar so if you learned Guitar you could also play bass.

It is easier (for me) to sit around and play guitar by myself as it is/can be a rhythm instrument where as a violin is more of a lead instrument.

You need a good ear to play violin since there are no frets you must be able to hear the note to make sure you have it fingered right where as a guitar has frets which tell you where to place your fingers.

If you are starting out you can get a cheap violin and it will play like a good violin, just not sound as good but it you get too cheap of a guitar it will be harder to play and might discourage you.

Stop by a good music store and try both out with a good sales person. Not one who is trying to sell you an instrument just so they can get their cut but some one he is seeing you as a customer years down the road.

Once you start playing you will love it WARNING!!! if you chose guitar you will get GAS (Guitar Actuation Syndrome) I have 6, one son has 7, and my other two sons both have one each...

    Pick it like Joni Mitchel

Depends on the style of music you want to play for one.

The guitar is also a more versitile instrument and you've got more room to be creative with one. But nothing quite sounds like a violin and trying to copy how it sounds faithfully is pretty impossible on all other instruments including the guitar.

It also depends on who you have to jam with. Got mates with a drum kit and a bass? Guitar. Live in walking distance of a concert hall or theatre? Violin.

Overall I'd saythe guitar is a safer bet, but by no means a clear winner. Try both n see which one you take to more.

Would have to go with the guitar because it sounds like I'm torturing cats when I try the violin. The guitar, to me, is easier because it has frets and a violin doesn't. Violin is hard for me to even say when I'm thinking fiddle but. I do enjoy listening to someone who plays well especially in breakdowns.

I would definitely select a violin. This is becoz a violin can play any kind of pitch and frequency. And it is pleasing to hear it.

I like Guitar more .. It has a wider range of sounds, you can play it acoustic, classic or flamengo .. it also has an enchanting echoing sound .. the violin is too nasal for me ..
