I've just been looking at FIFA World Rankings and England are 10th and USA are 4th. How?

The reason why this ridiculous rankings are like that is due to the lack of knowledge from the people who posted them, they are based on a favoritism ranking, meaning the most commercialization and propaganda teamas are in the top, plus is a way to promote soccer in the U.S.A, who by the way got a great team, with players with differentes bacjgrounds and tactic but also considere that U.S.A is in such a high ranking due to the games the won and lost and the have no really any team in Amercia that can challange them, as an example U.S.A plays against Mexico who might be the only team that might make it a bit hard to win and the rest of the Central Amercans country don't even have a real team. So don't believe, look at Brazil the struggle to qualify against Argentina and the qualify in second place in the South-American division, that doesn't make Argentina better than Brazil and viceversa.

OK USA is better than West Brom and Russia! but the rankings are still crap and based on some convuluted mystery mathematical system that takes into account that we beat easy teams. Even though we beat Poland we still lost to Germany and moved up a place,

So I think its a marketing ploy to promote soccer in the US or a way for the officials at FIFA to have a good laugh each month when they see the reaction.

Hate to be a dick about this but England didn't even qualify for Euro 08...Russia got to the semi-final. It's all in the points anyway, Fifa surely knows what they're talking about and Russia's really not a bad team.

the FIFA world rankings are based on a point system that takes into account the number of friendlies a team plays as well as their record in non major tournament years. The US under Bruce Arena happens to schedule a lot of friendlies with perhaps not always with the stiffest of competition, but we don't have major contenders in the CONCACAF. So because we play a lot of friendlies with a great record we are going to leapfrog countries that don't schedule a lot of matches.

your an idiot. sorry had to be said. i didnt know people still took notice of them rankings. usa have won more games playing jamica and costa rica. thats how they have went above.to say they are 4th best is stupid i think man utd, liverpool and probably west brom would beat america lol. italy,spain,gemany,russia,france,turkey,ireland the list goes on for teams better then usa at this moment and none of the above are real favourites for the world cup. in fact 3 arent even there.

Part of that (pseudo) ranking takes into account the last World Cup, and I think the USA did quite well there. But no one can take FIFA's ranking seriously. Ever.

The U.S. got lucky. England invented the sport and the U.S. hardly plays it at all. We are much better.

They go by performance. Number of games played/won/lost etc.

CAUSE THE USA IS AHELLA OF A LOT BETTER THAN ENGLAND!
