Will I get harrassed for being Mexican this weekend??
I'm traveling to Arizona this weekend- something I really wish I didnt have to do. I am an American citizen of hispanic race. No where else in the United States have I ever felt more conscience of my race than in the state of Arizona. I read an article yesterday that this weekend in Phoenix (where I'll be) there will be a 1000 person posse with the sheriffs office looking for illegals and instead of sending them back to Mexico- they are putting them in jail. I was born in the US, I have a drivers license issued from my state of residence. I am still concerned that I will be harrassed. What would you do? I can't cancel this trip- I have to go to Phoenix.

You are an American citizen, and we come in all shades , races, ethnic groups etc... you should not have to be worried or afraid of traveling in your own country! I don't see why they would harass you, no doubt there are plenty of "legal" citizens there as well as in every other state, if anyone does bother you call the police immediately !!!!!!!!! and don't let whats going on there make you change your plans or infringe on your freedom which is your right in your country ! go, be aware of your surroundings if your anxious, but do go... best wishes for a safe trip!

If the police try to pull you over, just show them your legitimate driver's license, they won't be able to do a darn thing to you because it shows you have legal citizenship.
Other than that, I have a friend who lives in Arizona and he personally has total respect for people that are of Mexican culture. They are people too and are just trying to make a life for themselves. So as far as just the people, I suppose their individual attitudes may vary but you shouldn't get harassed by the police. If they stop you once and you show them your driver's license I would suggest asking them as politely as you can to notify the rest of the authorities that you are a straight legal citizen of the U.S. -- that way if other police happen to stop you they will see that in their computer system that you were looked at already and you are legal, then they shouldn't harass you.

If somebody harasses you for being Mexican, tell them to shove it! I'm a Germanic pasty white dude, but I know that most Mexicans I've met are good, hard-working people who I would never harass. I live in Utah where we have a good share of Hispanics, and I much rather prefer some of their company than other Anglos like myself. I don't have a problem with Mexicans at all, but I do have a problem with all these protesters (most of them Hispanic I think) wanting the U.S. to just let illegal aliens come across the borders and not do anything about it. That is ridiculous stupidity. I'm all for Mexicans coming to the U.S., but they can do it legally just like my Caucasian American's ancestors did from Europe, and they can learn English too. I don't mind hearing Spanish in public, I wish I knew Spanish, but they are in America so they should at least attempt to learn English. I don't think all illegal aliens should be labeled as criminals or felons, but I do think the U.S. needs to do something about the large number of illegal aliens coming from Mexico or any other country illegally. I don't think you should be harassed for wanting fair and legal immigration rules for Mexicans, but if you get harassed for wanting illegal aliens to be able to come across the border with no consequence to them, then I have no sympathy for you. I certainly hope all the Hispanic people and others protesting understand that. I'd protest with them if that's what they wanted, but I would never condone illegal immigration, that would just be asinine! You're a legal American and you should be proud of that, and you should support being a legal American too, and not support illegal immigration. Good luck, I think you'll be fine in Arizona though.

Relax, go, and have a good time. Just make sure that you always carry identification on you at all times. This is a good policy to live by for people of any nationality. It is actually a law, and you can be stopped and asked to show identification anywhere. Since you are a legal US citizen, you should be fine.

You stand up for yourself! You don't have to answer to anyone! Bring whatever documents(copies of course) you think you will need and keep your chin up, look them dead in the eye and tell them to keep looking! Good luck! You'll be just fine.
