Can you answer Air Force Boot Camp question?
My daughter is joining the Air force, she can't do regular pushups only the ones on her knees.....will this fly or will she have to gain that upper body strength to pass boot?

I am a FORMER Marine. The physical fitness regs are not the same as for male recruits. The USMC does recognize that there are REAL differences in physiology in males and females and cannot expect the same results to the same physical tasks. If the Corps sees this, I know the USAF does.Don't fret, Mom, they'll get her up to speed.

I don't know about the Air Force, only boot camp in the Marines. But we had several girls who couldn't do push ups when we first started boot camp. By the end, everyone could do them. I'm sure the instructors will be able to and expect to help some of the recruits along physically. Some others, they will have to help emotionally or mentally. That's why it is TRAINING. Tell her not to worry. It will be fine. But encourage her to work out and be as fit as she can be in the time there is. It's a good thing to be top of the class.

Yes, she will need to gain the upper body strength to do them. They will do them every day, so she should start now, and save herself hassle in boot camp. Tell her to start by leaning against the kitchen counter, body about a 45 degree angle and do push ups. After doing that she will be able to move up to doing a regular push up. Try and advance up to a "man's" way of push up, because that is what they require in the end.

I've been in an the army for several yrs now. For the last few I have observed the Air Force Base co-located with my post. Don't worry about her doing push-ups, the Air Force is the easiest to get into when it comes to PT. They will let her do it on her knees. But for her on good she should learn to man up if she is going to join the military.

As an Active Duty Air Force NCO. Yes she will have to do regular push-ups as well as sit-ups. She should work on it before she goes to basic, but she will also be taught in basic. The whole purpose of Basic Training is to take a civilian and turn them into an airman. She should also be able to run a mile and a half.

As a former Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Army and now an Instructor at Fort Knox, YES, she will develop upper body strength to do the correct push up, Her instructors will see to this as well as a lot of other little details that will help her grow in to a fine airman and, unfortunately for you Dad, your little girl will learn self dependence and a greater understanding of her abilities. Daddy's little girl is going to grow up a whole lot while she is away.

whenever she takes a PT test, she'll have to do real push-ups, or whatever it is they do in the air force. Either way, I think she has to do a certain amount of push-ups to even go to basic. She needs to get that strangth as soon as possible.

The knee pushups are not pushups. they do not strengthen you AT ALL, it takes all of the work out of pushups.

he said af not marines...anyways she will need to practice reg push-ups to be better prepared for the pt test.
