My three yr old wont stay out of the fridge. Child proof locks dont work. Have any suggestion?

He rips off those "child proof" latches like they're nothing is there another product out there and where can i get it?

Update:

I have the one where doors edges are one side so putting out of reach is imposible

Update 2:

And dont tell me to disipline my kid. If i go to the bathroom or turn my back he's in it. He's the size of a four yr old and he's tall.

Update 3:

He is not hungry. He takes things out and dumps food all over the floor. especially the eggs. He is not old enough to help him self to the food because he don't eat the food. He plays in it!!!

Update 4:

He's developmentaly delayed so he cant talk but he can sign to let you know if he's hungry and by the way, people he eats six times a day but he only weighs 40 pounds and is 3'5.

Wow, some people and their "advice". Jeesh! A 3 year old is trying to be independent, save the spanking for something major! I bought a child proof latch from Lowe's. I'm not sure what kind you were using that didn't work. This one is just a Safety First I think. It's only adhesive so I doubted that it would really stick, but it does. It has a buckle on the side. My husband and I have a bad habit of pulling on the door without unlatching it and it does not budge. I also saw one on www.onestepahead.com call a lock release fridge latch for $5.95. Good luck!

Is it really a problem? My 3yr. old son gets in the fridge all the time he has his own space for all his little snacks I buy him. He would rather eat a cheese stick or yogurt than candy and those things have to be kept cold. My son is disciplined also he minds and when I tell him he's had enough he puts whatever he got back. I just don't see a problem with my kids snacking threw out the day as long as they eat their dinner.

How desperate are you? You could take a bike lock, wrap it around the fridge, and lock it with a key lock. Not pretty, and it's a pain to use, but it works!!

I have heard of (but never been able to find) a kind of fridge lock that is attached to the side of the fridge that opens that uses a key. I don't know where or how to find one. If you want to try this, you might want to call a locksmith; it would probably to be installed by a professional anyway.

Have you considered appropriate curvature of your hand to the appropriate curvature of his behind - this is not beating or abuse - this loving discipline that demands he respect what he is not entitled too. Otherwise, if he is continually doing this is he hungry? This could be a need to be checked out with his pediatrician. Is he bored or just wanting attention? Is it the result of watching tv which promotes eating? We finally had to take tv out of our home in order to appropriately control the weight of our child. We lovingly disciplined. We parent controlled viewing of the tv. We gave undivided attention. We did not allow in between junk food snacks. Nothing seemed to slow down his voracious appetite and there was not a health concern. When the tv went, so did his continual nagging he was hungry and so did the 20 pounds he did not need to already be carrying around. Just to note: since we gave up tv, we have all lost weight, feel more in control of our own lives, and actually enjoy reading and family life - things we didn't realize we had sacrificed until we weren't living around tv.

Discipline, take the parent role in the parent-child relationship. What if your child was getting into a drawer full of matches or lighters? What if your child was opening the front door and running into the street every time you weren't looking? Your child needs to learn that when the parent says no, it means no. You cannot buy protective latches for the problems in life. Teach your children to respect your decisions.

This may be a little weird, but this is what i had to do. Tie the handle to the fridge door to the freezer door will a good peice of wire or rope. Then put the safety lock up on the freezer door up high where he cannot reach it. You will have to untie but it keep em out.

u can buy the fridges with small number locks, or the ones with the diginumber panel. if you dont want to buy a new fridge, the bestway is to raise the child lock so the kid wont reach it or keep the food the child opens the fridge for out of reach

my son did that all the time. One day I made a huge bowel of chocolate pudding and my son learned how to open the fridge with a spatula, I was at work, my husband fell asleep and woke to the kids laughing and found my daughter sitting in the pudding and my son scooping it up and dumping it on her head. What can you do except laugh and give them a bath? We stopped keeping good food in there till he stayed out of it and that worked actually. Nothing good in the fridge no desire to go in it.

Carry him away and yes, disipline him. Maybe he's hungry! Feed him a snack once in a while, and a hearty breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Then, maybe he won't go in the fridge, because he isn't hungry. If that doesn't work, then ask him why he does it. Then, tell him to come to you when he wants to go in the fridge.
