Would you hire a 44 year old white woman w/ 15 yrs office experience or a younger and cheaper person w/kids?
I'm having a tough time getting a job, I have 15 yrs experience in claims adjusting. I can't have anymore kids, and I keep getting told, I"m overqualified. I edit my resume to fit what ever job I'm applying for. I always see the younger people get the job. I'm starving in Central Cali.

claims? come to sydney australia. I will give you a job! If you interview well and have good references, most people will hire you for the right job. IF you are going for jobs that you are over qualified for, you can't expect the same high pay. you need to not price yourself out of the market. what I mean is, if you have 10 years experience. and want $20 per hour, and a younger person has 2 years experience, and whants only $10 per hour, and the job only needed 1 years experience EVERYONE would hire the cheaper person, so you need to price yourself for the job you are going for.

just went down that road myself (different career than yourself), but finally found a company that mainly hires older and experienced people. Try a GS job or government contractor. Don't overlook networking either, friends and family looking for you is better than just you. Might also look for something part time as a start. You are right though, it seems the younger and cheaper crowd do get the jobs, it's our experience that closes many doors as the employers don't want to pay for it, irregardless of what we put on our resumes. Good luck

Men who seek women in a different generation from themselves (15 to 20 years younger) are seeking their youth to be relived through these women. Unfortunately, some of these men are looking for younger women because they are less likely to challenge some things they may say or do because these females may lack the experience of someone closer to him in age. Younger females often present a more attractive body image than an older woman. Therefore, many of these men are obsessed with physical appearances, which only last until time and the reality of age related incompatibilities set in.

ht eyounger person. they are less likely to leave for something better. and since they have kids- they need the job. if you have 15 years of experience, you need to try for something higher up. try to figure out how the age difference will go to your advantage- like maybe look at a place that is more professional instead of a sales based company. sales will look for the attractive young ones. more professional like a law office or psychiatrist office will look for more experience.

well society is a bit ageist - its the same over here in the UK - but whats the white got to do with it - am sure black women got the same problem!
just keep trying and maybe look at different jobs too. sometimes we have to do this - even though you would prefer to get job in claims adj. - maybe you need to consider other types of work - good luck!

Whether you are white or not - or whether the competition has kids or not is completely irrelevant.
All other things being exactly equal, I would prefer the older person because of the work ethic that was more present in previous generations.
