Why do people feel the need to throw out cigarette butts out of their car?

Many newer cars have no ashtray and as a result idiots toss out their butts istead of getting a small cup or something for the inside of the car. As for laws there are, it's a violation of whatever littering laws are in your particular state, however if they can trace a grass fire (most over 90% are caused by this practice) to you tossing out a cigarette but, you will face felony arson charges. I hate that people do that, I smoke but I keep my but in my car and then dispose of them when I get to where I'm going. I think tossing out butts comes from pure laziness, and this is why we are slowly losing the right to smoke people be responsible with your habits.

I can't stand it either! What I hate even more is people who smoke on the beach, or in the parks and wilderness reserves and leave their butts behind.

I'm a smoker, (not proud, but hooked) and I go nuts at people I don't even know for 'butting out' wherever they please. When it comes to cars, I had to be inventative and purchase a $5.95 self-extinguishing ashtray from the supermarket. I fixed it to my dash with gaffer tape. It doesn't look good, but I did it. I would be very embarrassed if I had a passenger in my car who did that! Disrespect, ignorance and selfishness is all I can say about those that just can't be bothered making an effort to clean up after their own bad habits.

I am a smoker too, but I don't litter. I don't normally smoke in my car, but if I do I will use a soda can. I hate when I see people doing that as well. I had a friend get a ticket for doing that. She was driving on the freeway and a highway patrol pulled her over because she threw her cigarette butt out the window. So, I believe if they see you doing it, you will get a ticket.

They feel no qualms about throwing them out the window, but don't want them in the car. Ironic. Also, most of today's cars don't come equipped with ashtrays.

In Texas this can incur a $200 fine.

I was driving down the highway several years ago, the car in front of me threw a butt out, and it went into my open window. I had to stop the car and find it. I never had an issue with this before, but I do now.

New cars do not come with ashtrays believe it or not..you have to pay more money for a car to come with one.. it's easier to jsut flick it out the window

I think they just don't want to mess up the insides of their cars. It's funny, here in the UK a council just fined a woman for throwing a cheesy whatsit out the window of her car, because they thought she had thrown a cigarette out. When she complained, stating it was only a piece of food that the birds would eat, they said it didn't matter, the law is clear in the UK, no littering. More power to the Council's here.

B***s*** answers. They don't want to lose value in their cars? There is a litter law in all cities and towns. If the police just started to write the tickets, people would stop. Not going to happen, but it is irritating. When I see it happen I yell at the person.

Because they live for the moment and not the future and are the same people that would complain if you drove past there house and threw a cigarette butt in their car

many cars dont have ashtrays, i do flick out butts too but make sur-e they r estinguished and also that they fall on the road not on someone else

I don't and maybe you do throw, do you have some guilt? To better yourself, go and grab a bag and walk along the highway to you can pick those butts up so you can put it in yo *** tray.
