Why do people go overseas to adopt?

There are thousands of American children who need loving homes, why do people spend so much money going abroad or through private adoptions when the State is caring for so many abandoned/relinquished children? There are so may awaiting adoption, why not chose one of them?

Because it's so hard to adopt in the US. There's so much unnecessary red tape people have to go through. Also, with so many religious orphanages, they won't let people adopt who aren't of that religion or who don't agree to send the child to that parish's school in the future (which means a set of adoptive parents end up forking over much, much more money to the church than the original adoption charges). People in charge have made it very hard to adopt in the US, unless it's a privately done adoption.

They put a lot of children in foster homes and I think adoption must be easier in other countries then here I love children and do agree we should look at our own country before concering other countrys.

It's really opinoin based. Children over seas that are in Orphanages and stuff are usually living in pure poverty and starving and dying. American kids in orphanages are usually in poverty, but just ghetto poverty, not really quite to starving-dying poverty. Because of government funds. The need is greater in other countries, although it is still almost the same wasy in the U.S. too. You have to look at it from two different sides, really. And some places are harder to adopt, than they are in foreign countries.

Red tape is one thing but a primary reason is that there is such a waiting list to get a healthy american BABY. Due to the number of abortions in this country the number of babies available for adoption are limited. Sad, sad, sad. God bless you.

I don't know about the states but in canada its virtually IMPOSSIBLE to adopt a healthy infant UNLESS you go out of the country. For example in my province there were only 19 healthy babies adopted to loving homes last year. 19!!!!!

beats me ?? there are so many kids right here in the U.S. that need good homes and families but people go out of their own country to adopt, makes no sense to me,some people say the process is easier.I think we need to focus on our own kids here and let the other countries fend for themselves for a bit until things get better here in the U.S.

the honest truth is that "most" are looking for caucasion or babies and in America there are alot of minority children. I adopted my 3 right from my county and proud of it>

There's nothing wrong adopting kids from other countries.

Cheaper, easier, and way less involvement from government entities locally.
