I raised three children to be good citizens. I taught school for ten years and then I became a specialist in mental retardation and mental illness. Then for ten years I coordinated a program for elderly mentally disabled citizens to be integrated into the community after many years in an institution. I did private care for Alzheimer and cancer patients without accepting pay. After I became disabled with rheumatoid arthritis, I asked God to show me what I could still do for my community and to send people to me who had needs I could assist with. I live in a large apartment complex and many residents have come to me for blood pressure checks, glucose readings, and medication questions. When a neighbor was hospitalized, I took care of her dog. I volunteered as a reassurance caller for Alliance on Aging. I babysat in my apartment for a sick child whose mother couldn't miss work. There's always something you can do. Simple things count! Say hello to someone who seems lonely. Smile. Open the door for someone who has their arms full of bags. Ask someone how they are; if there is anything you can do for them. Refuse to gossip. Support your local law enforcement workers by praising them. Be generous with sending birthday greetings, a note of sympathy, a bowl of soup for a sick neighbor. Offer to tutor a child who needs extra help. The options are endless and any act of kindness makes your community better and your life happier.

I've gone for the First Step in that I've Proven that Gasoline can be turned into Propane. 50 + MPG, with even the Largest SUV, and, at least 10 X Engine Exhaust Pollution Reduction. For the Second Step, I'd like to Restore and Convert Vehicles, and Donate them to Charity, starting with the Local "Meals-On-Wheels" Program. Also, Volunteer Disabled Veterans' Assistance Services. There's no Shortage of People who want to Help, but with the High Cost of Fuel it's becoming increasingly difficult. Here's the Problem; all Vehicles in the USA, from 1996 to the Present must conform to the Clinton/Gore EPA-OBD II Law that Mandates a 14.7 Air to 1 Fuel Ratio. My System is 100 Parts of Air to 1 Part of Fuel, and it's Illegal! If I had the Financial Resources, I'd like to Expose the Hypocricy of this Insane Law, through Charity, by Restoring, and Donating Older Vehicles to Charity. I've been to the US Patent Office. All other Similar Units have been Bought Out. Case in Point, the Pogue Carburetor, with a Patented Claim of 100 MPG, with a Flathead Ford V-8 Engine Powered Vehicle that Normally got 15 MPG! And it was before WW II ! This is for Real! This, by Reducing Petroleum Consumption, Air Pollution, and Global Warming could truly make the World a Better Place! And Maybe, We could finally move on to Low Cost, Safe Hydrogen. I Think My System could be a Step in that Direction. But, "It Ain't Gonna Happen" as long as there is so much Greed and Profit in Petroleum !For even more Insight, check out this Website. It's a Couple of Years Old, but very Informative, and Vital.http://energy21.freeservers.com/bookrep.html

About the only thing I have ever done is join Lions. We donated to charities and worldwide charities. We donated money which funded the finding of a cervical cancer vaccine by the Australian of the Year.

Unfortunately due to the pompousness and nothing there to hold the young within the group I have now left. I am now working on a gay pride committee. I like to think I'm community minded but after the let down of Lions I want to do something that makes me happy as well as others.

Optimist Clubs are great community service clubs that conduct programs and projects for children in their communities. Each club decides what projects to do to meet their community's needs. Optimist International has several programs available (speech and essay contests, sports tournaments, youth appreciation, respect for law, safety on wheels to name but a few) but clubs can also design their own projects(we made Easter baskets for Head Start classes, others have built parks or sports facilities).

A member can be as active as they want to be. (Members must be 18 years of age and sponsored by an Optimist member, but youth clubs are also available.)There are opportunities to develop your own leadership skills within a club, at a state or district level, and even internationally. State, or District, conferences are held quarterly to offer trainings and a sharing of ideas. An international convention is held yearly at different locations. I have made many friends from both the U.S. and Canada.

Optimist International's headquarters in the U.S. is in St Louis, MO. Give them a call and they will direct you to a club in your area.
