Is using a sponge in kitchen vs. a wash cloth actually worse for hygiene?

I heard some people say sponges harbor germs but I am very skeptical about this. Since detergent in the sponge is antibacterial, how can bacteria grow in sponges? Same problem should be valid for wash clothes right?

You can put a sponge in the microwave until it dries and this will kill the germs. I think sponges are dirtier than wash cloths is because most people use a wash cloth once then throw it in the washer while people let the sponge sit on the counter until it falls apart.

A good way to keep a sponge clean is to put it in your diswasher when you run the dishes!

I use a clean dish rag every day, how often do you wash your sponge?

As long as you regularly clean your sponge, just as you would normally clean your wash rags, you are OK.
