Why does 'Judgment' sound so legalistic?

Modern Christianity promotes itself as being all about love, tolerance, forgiveness, etc... and don't worry yourself about legalism like the Law of God, God's ordinances, the "Old" Testament, etc... But, why does divine 'Judgment' still sound so legalistic?

Update:

Acts 17:31

Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness

Romans 14:10

...for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Hebrews 10:26-31

 26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

 27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

 28He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

 29Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

 30For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Update 2:

2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ

Colossians 3:25

But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

2 Timothy 4:1

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

1 Peter 4:5

Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power

Revelation 20:12

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Update 3:

The Judgment will be divinely just & fair - based on what is written in Books. If Revelation 20:12 doesn't refer to the 5 Books of Moses i.e. the Torah (Genesis-to-Deuteronomy), what do you suppose is the written standard [the books opened B4 the Book of Life] we will all be judged against?!

    clueless_clown,

    The Old Testament law was easier to follow than the New Testament. Those who paint Christianity as easy very often do a disservice to those who listen. In the New Testament, we will be judged for our words and actions and our motivation and our endurance. We will be held accountable for what we did with what we received. We have been given much and much is required.

    The New Testament gospel teaches righteousness that is a gift. We are given the freedom of innocence whether we understand it or not. We can respond to God with obedience and fulfill the law. Jesus said that if we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbors as ourselves, then we have kept the law. We are not immune from the law, but are responsible for keeping a higher law that takes into account our motivation. We are expected to love. We are given everything that we need to succeed, and we will be judged accordingly. Jesus said that He can tell who is going to heaven and who is not by whether we love our neighbor. Let’s read His words:

    "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.

    Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.'

    Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and invite You in, or needing clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?'

    The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.'

    Then He will say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite Me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after Me.'

    They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help You?'

    He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.' Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." Matthew 25:31-46

    God bless.

    The judgement here is admonishment in righteousness.

    2Pet.3:13;

    John 12:47,48; Some die for the word, hey know what it is all about and give their life for it. Rev.6:9-11; 12:11;

    Rev.17:6; 20:1-6; Finally they ae priest of God and Christ.

    John 3:16; Some are just believers, they are just and meek.

    Matt.5:5;

    Most think they will get by without knowing the word.

    If they do not want any part of it Rev.20:7-10; is the end of it. They and some befor have judged their own self.

    Jesus own John 17:17; are sanctified with the truth.

    Humankind is failing to see the value of the word of God.

    The world would pass away, and his word would remain.

    Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

    Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

    Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

    Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

    Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

    Two Judgments in heaven. One is about rewards too. The other is not us for but the world that could have accepted the covering and did not. They will be on their own merrits ouch!

    Man don't hand out the rewards. God see's Christ in us not us

    Price paid in full ... we get the good judgements.

    really it boils down to one thing you should worry about the judgement if you have done something wrong and have not recieved the pardon of christ righteousness. Unfortunatly people think that is god is just loving and benign anymore, or else the think he is an overbearing taskmaster looking forward to punishing the bad. they all want nothing more than for people to love them and to do the right thing

    the way out is to believe jesus paid the price,
