It is normal for the baby to get the hiccups, its not really proven to why they get the hiccups some suggest maybe the swollow to much atmoic fluid others disagree. i heard that some mums just drink a glass of water and it calm the baby down. but it depens on your baby i suppose.
Fetal hiccupping becomes apparent to the mother during the late second and early third trimester when she notes regular rhythmic movements of her baby. This activity is visible on ultrasound, but we still don't know precisely why the fetus hiccups. The movement may result from changes in pressure in the baby's trachea (windpipe) caused by swallowing, which stimulates the diaphragm to contract. Some experts have speculated that this reflex may be related to babies sucking their thumbs or drinking the amniotic fluid

No it's not what you eat, I watched a documentary on discovery while I was preggs and it's not entirely known but the docu said it has something to do with the oral fixaton period a baby goes through and the hiccups somehow helps the baby prepare to learn to suck when it's out of the womb. Spicy foods have nothing to do with hiccups but is will give them belly aches and the docu said spicy foods can give your amniotic fluid a flavor and the babies can taste it but its not harmful or anything, forgive me I tvoed it and watched it like 6 times. It's nothing your doing wrong and you can't stop it, so enjoy it it's cute.

Nothing you can do. My daughter woke me up almost every night with the hiccups before she was born. She had the hiccups all day the day she was born. You can't tell a baby to hold her breath!

You can't, and you shouldn't want to. I was just watching this last night. The hiccups are not caused by anything you are doing, it's the baby's body causing them, it is to prepare the diaphram and lungs for breathing after the baby is born.

hi
first its very good if your baby has hiccups, hes healthy and developing well. his lungs and body are getting ready to take their first breath sooooooooon. so when ur baby has hiccups relax because this means ur baby is healthy and doing fine.

You can't make him stop but it doesn't bother him. Besides...it's kind cute, huh?
Good luck mom-to-be!
