Mac users?
I'm in the market for a new laptop and am debating switching from a pc to an Apple. I've read mixed reviews about the process and would like to hear some experiences from users who have done so recently. I do a lot of work in Photoshop and know it's supposed to run better on an Apple but have never done so myself. Is this true? Will I regret it if I make the switch?

I am life long apple user and I think you will not regret the switch. It will take some time to get used to GUI of OSX, but you will end up loving it. It is true that Photoshop runs better on mac. However, because of apple switching to the Intel chips and photoshop not being "universal" ( runs on Intel and PPC ( the old chip)) Photoshop has to run in a program called Rosetta that changes the code on the fly. This slows down photoshop. Yet, soon a new version of photoshop will be released and it will be faster than ever. I have had nothing but good experiences with mac. I every mac I own is still functional, including my mac from 1984. Also if you have some PC stuff that can't be transferred over, you can bootcamp your mac and run either windows or OSX on your machine. I suggest that you go to an apple store and play the macs, ask them questions, and I think you will find that you wished you would have switched earlier. Good Luck.

I don not think you will regre the switch. I used windows and switched to mac and run photoshop alot. It runs alot smoother. Right now with apples new intel chips all adobe prodictus run through a proram called rosetta so for a while they wil lrun about as fast as they do one a g5 and maybe a little faster than the windows but once adobe makes them universal they will run alot faster. If you make the switch there will be alot of things you dont have to worry avout like viruses and spyware and macs rarely crash. I have never had photoshop stop responding and my mac has only crashed once. If you do get a mac and plan on using photoshop i would not suggest the mac book or the mac miini since they have onboard graphics cutting away from the RAM I would go with a Mac Book Pro, iMac (Intel or G5 (Refurbed)) or a power mac.

I recentle purchased an Apple lap top used to test it out for myself. I wanted to get a little more experience with OSX before boot camp became a final version because I intend to switch and triple boot Windows, OSX, and Linux (probably a live CD version). Here are my thoughts.
pros:
1. Mac interface is superior for a laptop. The dock magnifies when you move your mouse over it and contains every program on the machine plus the ones you add to it. This cuts down on looking through menus and affords better battery life.
2. Ivory white keyboards are easier to see in low light. Maybe its small, but its nice to be able to see the keys when your on a dimly lit airplane.
3. cascade window keys. If you press F9, F10, or F11, the windows you have open will be tiled out, stepped, or pulled completely off the screen to allow for easy switching between programs. It's very nice to just tap a key, and have every window tiled out so you can see what is in each one. Once you click the windows you want, the windows return to normal size and position with the selected window on top. AWESOME feature!
Cons:
1. more expensive. Money talks
2. Customer support isnt as great as people say it is. Why? Apple tech support is not 24/7!!!! Customer support is only good if its there when you need it. If your kid needs to work on a project at 8PM, the computer goes down, and you cant figure out how to fix it.... your boned until Monday at 8AM Pacific time. I agree that once on the phone they are good, but they wont always be there.
3. Lack of customization. There are alot of things I would like to turn off. Namely, the animated windows, dock, and drop shadows. I would also like to be able to re-size the RAM cache for the NIC card... but as of yet I have found no way to do any of these things.

I was a PC user for many, many years and recently switched to a Mac laptop. I wish I'd done it sooner. It's intuitive, powerful, easy to work with and great customer support. Graphics work is great.
The only downside for me is that most games are for PC; but I guess I shouldn't be spending so much time playing games anyway...

Alright a mac is better than a pc in many ways and it's true your photoshop and all multimedia things run better on a mac. Instead of me listing the ways a mac is better than a pc, here's a link to apple.
