I'm a synaesthete, a lesbian, a Washington State University Honors College alumni with degrees in psychology and literature, and a professional writer. My first published short story is called, "Better Than Tears." It is published under my real name. I am not a nice person. I am frequently generous, sarcastic, lyrical, intolerable, benevolent, arrogant, right, tolerant and irreverent, but never nice. I am an Irish-American dual citizen and lived in Limerick until age 12. I am the oldest of eight children. I live and play in Southern California.

  • Does anyone know of a good freeware mp3 splitter?

I've ripped a bunch of tracks with a bunch of silence at the end because the album had a 'hidden' track at the end. Does anyone know of a good, free, mp3 splitter that will allow me to split the track where the music stops?

  • Does anyone use Helio wireless service in the Greater Los Angeles/Inland Empire area?

I'm curious about the service quality. Switching away from a major carrier network makes me a little nervous. How would you rate the service in Southern California?

  • About Italian food?

I was watching the Sopranos last night, and they're always talking about something that sounds like "man-a-got". Does anyone know what this is?

  • Prayer requests?

I've never understood when people ask other people to pray for them. Is [deity of your choice] more likely to answer a prayer that comes from many people rather than just one?

  • So I've been wondering...?

What is the difference between a humanistic, monastic system of belief in which wisdom is sought by means of an apparently nonsensical system of questions and answers, and a lot of mystic gibberish made up on the spur of the moment?

  • Would anyone else like a WTF rating for answers?

I'm all for the thumbs up and thumbs down for answers. I would also like to see a question mark rating, though, for answers that don't make sense. It's not good, it's not bad, it's just gibberish. That way, answerers who are consistently unclear could get feedback that no one understands them. Who's with me?

  • How do I turn this day around?

It's been a godawful morning. I had a flat tire, on the only day this week I was due in at the office. The tech couldn't do a flat repair, so I had to replace the tire. The guy I worked for chewed me out for being late, even though I called about once every fifteen minutes from the time I got the flat and no one answered the phones.

How do I make this day not suck so much?

  • Bread Machines?

I'm in the market for a new bread machine. I've heard good things about the Zojirushi, but it's expensive and I've heard it's not easy to clean. Is that machine worth it? Is there another brand you'd recommend? I don't plan on making meatloaf (grin) in it, and I probably won't do a lot of whole wheat receipes.

  • Anaheim Restaurants?

I'm planning a trip with my sister and her kids to Disneyland in December. I'd like to take my sister (without the kids) to a very nice restaurant while we're there. I've heard The White House is good. Is that true? Is there another restaurant you'd recommend?

  • Wine recommendations?

I would like to try different wines, but am limited in experience. I do know, however, that I'm partial to very sweet wines. Rieslings and moscato d'astis are my favorites. Can you think of anything else I might like?

  • To what degree are Israel's actions in Lebanon justified?

What are your thoughts on the situation? Has Israel overstepped? Do Lebanese Prime Minister Sinoira's conditions for the deployment of the Lebanese army give tacit support to Hezbollah's actions?

  • Is there a truly smudge-proof mascara?

I work on my feet for 16 hours at a stretch sometimes, and at the end of my day, my mascara is all over the place. I've tried waterproof, non-waterproof, and all the major cosmetics counters, and they all end up a mess. Is there a mascara out there that doesn't smudge all over the place after a few hours?

  • Why doesn't Answers USA have a bullfighting category?

Have you checked out the international sites? Under Society and Culture, all of them have a bullfighting subcategory. Even Answers UK and Canada where, I'm fairly certain, bullfighting is not a big issue because that's not what they're discussing in that category. So why is the US excluded from this category? I can just imagine the FABULOUS questions we'd be treated to if we had this option, can't you?

  • Napa area winery recommendations?

I'd like to take my mother to Napa/Sonoma for her birthday, but am not familiar with the area. I'd like to do some tastings and go out to lunch. Any suggestions? She prefers white wine to red, are there any wineries with really good selections of white wines?

One more thing, her birthday is in early September. Will the weather be awful?

  • Mac users?

I'm in the market for a new laptop and am debating switching from a pc to an Apple. I've read mixed reviews about the process and would like to hear some experiences from users who have done so recently. I do a lot of work in Photoshop and know it's supposed to run better on an Apple but have never done so myself. Is this true? Will I regret it if I make the switch?
