Apple pips contain a trace of cyanide. That's why they taste nutty, like almonds, which also contain it. Cyanide itself has a distinctive almondy smell. However, you would have to eat thousands and thousands to have a poisonous effect. So don't worry - an apple a day keeps the doctor away!

The good news: apple seeds do not contain arsenic.
The bad news: apple seeds DO contain cyanide.

The poison in the seeds is minimal. You have to eat many, many of them for anything to happen. Swallowing an occasional apple seed, probably won't hurt, since it will go right on through.
