OK, say your mom's sister has a daughter named Jane. Jane is your first cousin. Jane's children are your first cousins once removed and Jane's grandchildren are your first cousins twice removed. Your children and Jane's children are second cousins.

A cousin twice removed is a "great-great cousin" or a cousin of your grand parent. If that is not confusing enough, it can also mean one who is a cousin of a cousin married to your cousin. Basically it means someone who is related but no one can really work out how they are related to you, so they just say they are a cousin twice removed!

"Twice removed" means a cousin is two generations up or two generations down from you.

For example, my first cousin Mark has a daughter Alexis who has a son Washington. Alexis is my first cousin once removed; Washington is my first cousin twice removed. To him, I'm the cousin equivalent of a great-aunt. (Mark's brothers are his great-uncles; Mark's sister is his great-aunt; Mark is his grandfather).

It usually means it is the child of your parents cousin.

It just means the relationship is two steps away.

I think it means, it's not directly your aunt's son or daughter. But your aunt's son own kid.Kinda confusing.
