Actually the only one I can understand (surprisingly) is the King James' Version. I cannot understand the NIV, or similar versions period. I feel like it takes away from the authenticity of it. Perhaps it's because I was raised reading hte KJV, but in comparing it to the other versions I've read, I much perfer that interpretation of the words.

My favorite version is the New King James Version of the bible. Its very close to the King James Version but interpreted with a more modern English. In other words it sounds like the English i hear daily.

The book of John and his letters ( in the KJV 611 version ) are the purist in the new testament...Jesus' ministry was not to lead you to him in what is known a Christianity today. No! it was Jesus' ministry into what ever religion you had or no religion,,

it is the laws of good, truth, righteousness, and love that is within us no matter what race, religion or no religion in the world. God's children have the laws written in their minds and hearts. It has nothing to do with sexual, or religious orientation it has all to do with spiritual orientation. The book of John is pure because it never mentions earthly Levite law only Spiritual laws and that you take this book and put into all your laws on earth.

This is Jesus taught to the order of Melchizedek.

Parallel Bible, New International and New American Standard Version. Revised Standard is also pretty good.

Artscroll Stone Edition Chumash is great when just starting out.

Artscroll's commentary series on each individual book is even better. Many times it is just one line of Scripture and the rest of the page is commentary on how the words relate to other passages of Scripture, history, etc. Somewhat expensive but worth it if you are a serious student.

The Lamsa Bible. This translation was written by George Lamsa who grew up understanding Aramaic which was the spoken language of Jesus. Also I tend to ignore the book of Revelations because it was added to the Bible in error. You can find the Lamsa Bible on Amazon at the following link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_co...
