Male, I think they are more sensitive towards women. I know it sounds weird, but I've found it to be true.

I've had some great doctors of both genders. When it comes to an OB/GYN, however, I do prefer a female. IN my experience, they've been more likely to accept my own take on what is going on with my body rather than tell me it's in my head or suggest a D and C ~ which is what one male doctor said was my only course of action after a non-stop eight month period... he told me I was just depressed. A new -female- doctor checked hormone levels and then put me on the pill due to my heightened testosterone.
Due to experiences like that, I'm more likely to trust a female doctor's diagnosis and treatment plan when it comes to women's health.

I prefer a competent doctor who takes a normal amount of time off. i get upset with doctors that are part time for whatever reason. Either commit to the profession or find another profession that is more open to part time hours.
To answer your question directly though, I prefer a male doctor. An exam is an exam, but it seems like men have less to prove and are more confident, less defensive, than their female colleagues and are easier to work with behind the scenes too.

I prefer males. Just can't get comfortable with the whole female doctor thing. Must be psycological, but just don't want a female looking down there!

I prefer a female ob/gyn because when the doctor needs to check your cervix, their fingers are usually smaller. I also think that female doctors aren't so quick to rip out your parts. My mom had a doctor who said she needed a total hysterectomy, when a second opinion from a female doctor said that it was unnecessary. My mother went with the female doctor's opinion 25 years ago, and was glad she did as her menopause was very uneventful.

female or old male. I am less embarrassed about talking about things. A woman has been through most of it, a older man has seen it all anyway.

I have a great family doctor who is male and my ob/gyn is female. However when my ob/gyn is not available her husband (who shares a practice with her) fills in for her. There both great doctors.
