Anyone traveling to mexico by air or car, in June '06 (Michoacan)?

If you're driving from California to Michoacan, flying will be cheaper since you'll pay for gas + about us$100 tolls each way and will have to sleep at least 2 or 3 nights on the road each way.

There are cheap flights direct to Morelia, the capital of Michoacan from cities like LA (maybe Ontario as well), Chicago, Houston and I believe, Oakland. So from Cali you are assured of at least a couple of gateways. Since this flights are mostly hispanic market oriented and not for business travelers they should be somewhat cheap.

Flying to Mexico City from LA is usually not expensive at all (you can get flites for under us$300) so that's a good option and there are cheap buses from Mexico City airport to Morelia.

From Morelia (a beautiful colonial city), you con easily hop to Patzcuaro and Uruapan, nice attractions in Michoacan state.

Basically - driving: more expensive, get to see more of the country and you can move around easily

flying: cheaper, gets you faster to your destination, will have to bus between points and take taxis within the cities. Renting a car, of course, it's always an option but expect to pay between us$70 and us$ for a basic economy model so that quickly will add up to your expense total.

large trip spot.. i've got been in close by Playa del Carmen approximately 30 mn from Cancun that's smaller than Cancun yet I enjoyed it.
