I need to know about the song "cats in the cradle"?

I need a site that looks deep into the meaning of Cats in the Cradle. I also need to know what "the silver spoon" and "little boy blue and the man in on the moon" mean. Its for a school project

To find out all the words go to google and toss it out to them. Little boy blue refers to the young boy who is supposed to be singing that verse. Man in the moon is his absentee father. I think the silver spoon is unfulfilled dreams or broken promises. This guy really misses his dad. You can also try lookin at Harry Chapin, who is the song's singer. Good luck.

The song and words were written by Harry & Sandy Chapin, in the '70s...a fantastic song writer who tragically died in 1981...here's a link to a website dedicated to him...you may find more info there...

'Cat's in the cradle, little boy blue, etc. are nursery rhymes that all children grow up with...Chapin is inferring this child is growing up without his dad, stable childhood,

etc. (When you coming home dad, I don't know when, but...) Silver spoon refers to 'born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth' meaning wealthy or privledged...

Cats In The Cradle...Harry Chapin. He wrote it about how he lived and his son grew up before he knew it and he couldn't believe it was gone before he knew it and how his son grew up to be just like him and not spend enough time with your kids while they are small, too busy workin and worrying. Moral..take life a little slower. Stop and enjoy it and enjoy your kids cuz they are grown and gone before you realize. Listen to the song.

"Cat's in the Cradle," appearing on the album Verities & Balderdash, is a song by American singer/songwriter Harry Chapin. It is the story of a father who does not have enough time to spend with his son, and then his son grows up and does not have enough time to spend with his father.

The song was written by Harry's wife Sandy, a poet and writer, long before the birth of their son Joshua. When Sandy showed it to Harry, there was only casual interest. After Joshua's birth, Harry realized just how much the song meant to him and, after retooling it some, eventually recorded it. The song became the best known of Harry's work and a staple for folk rock music.

The song was used as the music bed for a Northern Ireland Office anti-terrorism advertising campaign in the late 1980s.

The song was later recorded by Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Ricky Skaggs, Finn Kalvik, Ugly Kid Joe, and Mandy Patinkin. Many people mistakenly believe the song to be by Cat Stevens, including many downloaders of a mis-titled MP3 version. A Cat Stevens fan web site states that Stevens has never performed the song, "not live, not in the studio, and not even privately."[1]

In 2006, rapper DMC released a new song and video, "Just Like Me," that uses guitar samples and chorus from "Cat's in the Cradle," with the chorus sung by Sarah McLachlan. The video has a credit and gratitudes to Harry Chapin and the Chapin Family at the end.

On the Internet, the song's performer is often claimed to be Guns N' Roses. This is erroneous, as the band has never recorded a cover of the song, nor played it live. Usually it's the Ugly Kid Joe's version which is believed to be performed by Guns N' Roses.

    Lyrics:

My child arrived just the other day,

He came to the world in the usual way.

But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.

He learned to walk while I was away.

And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,

He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad.

You know I'm gonna be like you."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,

Little boy blue and the man in the moon.

"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,

    But we'll get together then.

You know we'll have a good time then."

My son turned ten just the other day.

He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.

Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today,

I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok."

And he walked away, but his smile never dimmmed,

Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah.

You know I'm gonna be like him."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,

Little boy blue and the man in the moon.

"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,

    But we'll get together then.

You know we'll have a good time then."

Well, he came from college just the other day,

So much like a man I just had to say,

"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"

He shook his head, and he said with a smile,

"What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.

See you later. Can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,

Little boy blue and the man in the moon.

"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,

But we'll get together then, dad.

You know we'll have a good time then."

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.

I called him up just the other day.

I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."

He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.

You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,

But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.

It's been sure nice talking to you."

And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,

He'd grown up just like me.

My boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,

Little boy blue and the man in the moon.

"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,

But we'll get together then, dad.

You know we'll have a good time then."
