A good way of winning money on the World Cup is to not bet on the outright winners, like everyone else does.

I am betting on the winners of the groups this time, which you can get decent odds for. If Sweden win their group (i.e. by beating England) you can double your money at 2/1. Another interesting one is Ukraine to top Spain's group.

Alrenatively, you might like to bet on individual matches. most UK bookmakers offer a full coupon for this.

Brazil are the clear favourites. However, if you look at the performances of the big teams in the last two major tournements (World CUp 2202 and Euro 2004)they did not play well. If you wanted a good outside bet for this World Cup I've been told that Mexico is worth considering at 35-1. This is based on recent form and good results over the last two years.

Well everyone seems to think Brazil are a certainty to win it, but their defence isn't really good enough; their Goalkeeper Dida is very dodgy, while all of their defenders will be storming forward the whole time; Cafu and Roberto Carlos are getting quite old as well. I think Italy have a good chance with a solid defence, quality creative players like Totti and Pirlo and goalscorers Gilardino and Luca Toni. England will also be contenders, if Gerrard, Owen, Beckham, Lampard and Joe Cole are at their best; the defence is definitely one of the best in the world, so if the midfielders and strikers are on form, they'll go a long way. So my two tips are Italy and then England.

Brazil seems to be in top position followed by France and Argentina according to oddsDNA.com poll (you can still vote for your own country if you wish)
