What is Christianity?
Please give your best definition of Christianity. What makes a person a Christian?
Also, after you state your definition, please state your religion. I would like to consider your responses in correlation with the doctrine of the religion which you consider yourself a part.
Please be specific in identifying your religion. To me Christianity is not a religion in and of itself. It simply implies a belief in Jesus Christ. Generally, a person's chosen religion defines the dogma associated with their religious organization.
Thank you for your answers. Some of the questions and answers I've seen here have made me really curious about this. I'll write more about my observations after I've seen several responses.

True Christianity embraces the doctrines of the Bible, which include both Testaments. The teachings of Jesus Christ and the Apostles are emmulated by practical living. All scripture is considered to be inspired by God and therefore studied diligently and viewed as authoritative. Since scripture teaches that Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father, adherers to Christianity believe this and, by faith, live according to God's instructions for living. They know that God's purposes include far more than this fleeting life, which is described as a "vapor" in the scriptures.
I qualified my definition of Christianity with "true". The brand of modern mainstream Christianity that is present today is a far cry from the truth of scripture and the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Apostles. Much of modern Christianity is pagan in practice and doctrine.
Christianity is not a religion. It is a way of life for those who know God through Jesus Christ, their Savior. Religion is adherence to the tenets of a belief structure. Christianity is adherence to God through Jesus Christ. From that loving relationship flows a heart and mind that desires to obey God from a renewed spirit that only He can give upon faith in Him.
Eternal life is the gift God gives to those who believe Him and Jesus Christ is the only door. There is no other way.
I am a true Christian.

I have no religion! I was raised Baptist. I think Christianity is best described in John 3:16. I can not describe what a Christian truly should be like. I have ideas of how they should be but I have NEVER met someone even close to what I think they should be like. I think Christians use the I'm not perfect I'm forgiven way to much. It like they live their lives as they want and ask for forgiveness for their sins when they are finished living wildly at the end of the week. Then they start their week all over the same way not learning from their sins. I don't think it's fare that a person doesn't that live their life as Christian like as possible and still go to heaven just because they ask for forgiveness. All Christians that I know Talk the Talk and not Walk the Walk. They are the do as I say not as I do type of people. Well they think they do what they teach. Even though I don't have a religion I think that I live my life more Christian like then most others. I do believe in the 10 Commandments. Along with other teaching from other religions. These to me are common sense rules that parents teach their kids regardless of their religions. I think they are valuable lesson to learn from religions. Ithink people should you these as guideline to life by. The way I fell about people that I have met makes me not want to be part of religion.

Christianity is the one and only religion (if you can call it a religion) that allows us to call our God father and have the closeness with God to such an extent that it goes beyond simply being a religion, it's a relationship with the creater of the Universe. So, a Christian is an individual who has a real relationship with God through what Jesus did for us on the cross at Calvary.
I am a Christian and consider having all the riches of heaven being more precious than any amount of money or any other materialistic commodities.

What makes a person a Christian is two things:
1) A person must believe in the teachings of Jesus and have faith that Jesus is 'God made human'.
2) A person must *act* on those teachings and strive to follow them. It is a lifelong pursuit of the Christian to come closer to a perfect relationship with God and Jesus taught the ways of love that lead to this relationship.
That's the quickest answer I can give. Longer ones may be more satisfying, and I'm certain they are available.
My lens for truth: I am a Methodist Christian and I believe in Pluralism - the desire for interfaith dialog between denominations and religions.

Christianity is following after Jesus Christ, it is not a religion per se, but religions have come out of it. People have changed christianity to create what is today the christian religion which cannot be easily defined. I am not religious myself, i follow Christ and live by that.

A "christian" is a person that follows the doctrines written in thier holy book the Bible. The follow the teaching of Jesus and his apostles. The Bible itself is filled with books that were handed down and translated for several centuries until Gutenberg put it all together in true book form. The Christian faith is more tuned to the teachings of St. Paul and not Jesus as Jesus was a Rabbi (Jewish) and since Christians are not Jewish..... It is impossible for someone to be a good Christian and follow the bible to the letter. It is to constrictive and human nature is one of opposition. (Tell a person they should not and the will want to.) My opinion of a "good Christian" (true Christians do not exist), is a person that truely believes in their faith, and is not affraid of other faiths. They do not preach, or try to convert but will share information only when asked. They do not condemn others for what they do but instead realize that our individuality is what makes us unique. They also realize that their god loves EVERYONE UNCONDITIONALLY regardless of their faith, lifestyle or opinions. They acknowledge the fact that their god created diversity, and that they are not qualified to judge others and that is the job of their god alone. That is my opinion.

I'd say someone is a Christian if they believe in Christ as a spiritual role model. The term may also be applied to people who do not honestly believe, but are active members of a church facilitating Christian belief.
No religion. In the absence of any evidence for or against any belief set, all religions (including atheism) are equally plausible, making it an arbitrary choice-- one which I refuse to make. I think for myself, I don't need a book or a priest to help me.

Christian..simply means Christ within..
A true christian is one who follows the way and the example of Jesus Christ.
Because that God knows the nature of man he knew he needed to be able to reach men on his level..another words what he may understand the most. If you are a farmer lawyer tax collector truck driver meteorologist fisherman and so on...you should have been able to see the example of Christ in the parables he spoke
Jesus came to be the ultimate example to all men...so as being followers of Christ ..we are called Christians...
you can find it in the bible also when they started calling the followers of Christ Christians: Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch....
My church is a non-denominational church..we don't adhere to a name like baptist, pentecostal. We don't look down on any if they do...we are all part of the body of Christ..If you follow the bible from cover to cover...God bless

Christianity isn't a religion- it's a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and then he rose again three days later. Christians have faith in God- that Jesus will come back again and will take all of the Christians up to heaven with him. Faith is believing in what you don't see- liek when you hear an airplane in the sky but you can't see it and yet you know it's there. Jesus paid the ultimate punishment to save us from our sins, he died on the cross.
I'm a CHRISTian.

Christianity is the belief that a man named Jesus of Nazereth, was a teacher living in the early days of civilization. He hoped to spread good will amongst mankind. However, Rome saw Jesus as a threat, and had him killed at Golgaga by means of crucifixion. In the course of his death, he managed to save humanity from a fate of eternal fire, brimstone and damnation. Days after his death, he was ressurected after spending 3 days in hell and ascended into Heaven. His teachings and followers spread to the ends of the Earth, becoming mightier than the Roman Empire itself, but ironically, it was Rome who found the Roman Catholic Church, and became the mightiest power ever to exist. It's power can still be felt today.
Its followers believe in a tome known as the Bible. It contains allegorical texts written by prophets and wisemen of the day, and carries within it a set of moral guidelines that became quite popular and are followed by a majority of the world. Christianity deems that all of mankind are sinners, and that one must seek redemption through the Christ, Jesus, in order to "save themselves" from a fate worse than death. Christianity preaches love and compassion for self and peer alike.
Thus is Christianity.
I am currently agnostic, but I'm studying all the religions right now.
