Wine labels: Have you ever bought a wine just because of its label? If so, what was it and what attracted you?

Yes I have bought several "table wines" for their labels. There is a small winery in Intercourse, PA (not making that up either) they make a lot of wines for the "Medieval Times Faire" held there every year. They have interesting wines Pink Catawba, a very good blush, and of course the every spicy Sangria... kind of sweet but a fun drink for a Fair. I still have the bottles!! They were black with shiney gold writing and interesting medieval pictures.

I hate to say it, but yes, this influences me all the time - and I love wine!

The design of the label (as well as the name/brand of wine) influences me. I often find that well designed labels contain good wine, but this is not always the case.

As I often buy wine with foreign labels, the description of the wine is not as imperative as the design itself.

Like a previous answerer - the design/shape of the bottle influences me too!

Perhaps the most important part of the label for me (on French wines at least) is "Mis en bouteille a la propriete" rather than "Mis en bouteille par XXXX". This means the wine comes from the grapes on the estate, rather than an amalgamation of grapes from the region.

I find that I am attracted to wines of grapes that I have previously tried, so I would say if a wine states clearly the type of wine it is (eg. Merlot, Syrah) I find I know what I am getting more.

Yes I have... I don't remember what it was though. The reason is that the first time I really started liking wine was on a vacation to Italy and when I got back all the wine that was cheap and great in Italy was really expensive in the states. So I would just find a bunch of Chianti's (which I like best) and based on label and price pick one that I wanted to try.

Actually some of the best wines in th world espend a lot trouble just to make a beatifull label, for example the german wine you migth say that Blue Nun is the best in its kind and its label is the nicest compare to the others n this kind. any way the important thing is for you to try new thing so what ever is your criteria for buying wine is ok just try to remember what wine taste like what so you can buy it again

Yes I bought a wine because it had such a pretty and unusual label, I liked the colours on it, that sounds really silly, it was a Merlot so I knew it would be half decent anyway!

Yes, wine labels are one of the status to select and to taste wine, to see such as their countries and locations, and the climate. We can have good wines from wine labels not only name of labels but also their histories, origins, and locations. (I always think about those things when I have wine.)

When we want to find new wine we never tried, wine labels, they give us the special emotion sometimes, such as their designs, their ages, their taste, and their colors. When we find new good wine, we feel so happy to taste those wine, getting relaxed to refresh our daily healthy life, always.

    My favorite wine:

French wine - Cotes du Rhone

    California wine - Napa Valley

    Chile wine - Santa Carolina

    Argentina wine - Tarapaca, Trapiche

Only once, when I spotted a ten year old Portuguese red wine of great rarety on a supermarket shelf and obviously priced wrongly. There were 12 bottles on the shelf, and I bought them all for a price that was less than one would normally pay for one bottle of that vintage.

Hey Pontac...it wan't the label, but the bottle itself!

it was a 2003 Affentaler Spatburgunder.

Affen means ape in german, and the bottle has a monkey (made out of glass) climbing on it holding onto the neck.

It was an acceptable representation of the German Pinot noir!

    Never !

I bought a wine bottle if I knew it clearly.

I usually buy one kind of wine because I don't want to drink unfamiliar wine.

I think making wine our self is really good.

My father has preserved a big jar of wine.

It is called snake- wine because there are 7 snakes in that jar.

No. But I'm deeply ashamed to admit that I've bought wine because of the low price. Thankfully those days are behind me!
