What's the best way to knock out congestion in chest? I lie down and congestion sets in.?
Would this be congested heart failure creeping in? I'm diabetic. I do not smoke, but did years back.I see doctors regularly like clock work.

Actually, the term is "congestive" heart failure, and it has nothing to do with congestion (see symptoms below).
And by congestion do you mean you have trouble breathing, or that you have a feeling of fullness in your chest? Either way, let your doctor know.
Symptoms of congestive heart failure depend upon the side of the heart that is affected. Left-side congestive heart failure causes fatigue and shortness of breath during even mild exertion. Other symptoms include a wheezing or hacking cough and shortness of breath during sleep, called orthopnea. One particularly serious symptom is pulmonary edema, a condition in which fluids accumulate in the lungs. Right-side congestive heart failure reduces the amount of blood returning to the heart. The main symptom is swelling, usually of the feet, ankles, legs, and abdomen, as the veins and tissues throughout the body fill up with the excess fluid. Patients with right-heart failure often feel tired, have little appetite, and experience weight gain because they retain so much salt and water.

What you are describing is called orthopnea. When you go to the DR they do a pillow test (sounds strange but true...) they will ask you how many pillows you have to use to sleep with. People with CHF will say 2-3 or will say none, but they have to sleep in there recliner... This is a POSSIBLE indication of CHF, however there are a variety of tests that need to be done. As you have a long history of diabetes you need to make an appointment as soon as possible to see your doctor. Diabetics are more susceptible to infection and your symptoms could even be a sign of pneumonia...
Tests to be run are BNP (Not to be confused with BMP which is a basic metabolic panel)chest x-ray, CBC, Troponin, CK-MB, ECG, Echo (possibly) and a few others that will be determined by your doctor.

I've never heard of using socks before, but rubbing vapor rub on your chest at night helps relieve sinus congestion.

Check with the doctor first. You could try Mucinex (spelling may be wrong) it's an OTC medication. It worked for me when I had a bad case of chest congestion.

You need to see your physician ASAP. No one could tell you over the Internet what's going on. If you even suspect CHF, you need to be seen.
