the benefits of interval raiing is that you burn more calories , and never get bored. if you are a type of person who is always in a rush interval training is good. you do one expercise onec and more one with out resting this keeps your body at a certain body temperture that burns more calories.

Your body tries to burn as little energy as possible, which is why it can be difficult to lose weight. When you exercise at the same intensity (ie. same speed on the treadmill) your body figures out how to perform the exercise burning the least amount of calories. Interval training forces your body to keep changing energy systems - it can't get used to the exercise so it never gets very efficient. Simply put, it's like driving your car in city vs. highway. City driving (interval training) burns more gas (ie. calories) because of all the starting/stopping, whereas highway driving (constant exercise) burns less gas and is more efficient.

HIIT cardio is not about burning fat or X amount of calories during the actual training session. the purpose of HIIT is to speed up the RMR (resting metabolic rate) so that your body goes into fat burning mode for several hours after the training session. when you increase the RMR the body uses more free fatty acids (FFA's) for energy...there are also many positive hormonal responses from high-intensity interval training that do not occur from traditional low intensity long duration cardio...
