When did shame die?

People do the most ridiculous stuff, drop out of school, get in trouble with the law, screw up their credit, have a child out of wedlock, etc. then they wonder why people think they're stupid.

When did the shame attendant to these stupid actions and decisions die?

shame died fairly recently I think, maybe sometime in the 60s along with this cultural revolution. People now say "we don't need no stinkin rules and don't be ashamed of anything".

However, life goes in cycles, and there have been other times when shame has been repressed, but usually something big happens, people get their priorities straightened and stuff gets fixed for a little while.

When we stopped taking responsibility for our own actions and relying on the government and the schools to be responsible. Parents freely abdicate their responsibility for their children, stating they ought to learn this stuff in school. Yet they complain bitterly and loudly that the schools are failing their children. They're right - they're not teaching our children anything except how to take our president's standardized tests. So much for improving education in America!

Don't like the outcome? Don't complain - you created it. And it's being fostered by our theocratic president. He keeps pushing his "family values" agenda, but that only works if you're white, christian, have an above average income and education and, of course, vote republican!

Do we really want to go back to the days of the SCARLET LETTER? Perhaps you'd like to bring back the stocks and have people stoned to death? If you are such a great Christian, doesn't it say somewhere in the Bible, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone?" Instead of dwelling on shame, wouldn't it be better to address the problems of ignorance, poverty, alcohol, drug, and sexual abuse that may be underlying factors in these social problems?

Shame died a few decades ago when people were told that there are no rules, so you can just do your own thing without regard to the effects you have on others.

It was even foretold by the bible that man will become more immoral as time goes by, and that's exactly what's happening. The whole world is in his (the devil) hands.

Consciences don't exist in many people anymore, people that do things like you describe probably had bad childhoods. BLAME THE PARENTS!! But sometimes good kids go bad too.

    I don't know.

Are you asking this out of self-righteousness or godly concern?

    Just wondering.
