Consuming Fire

For some reason I don't get messages through here, so if you want to email me you have to do it directly. katcue@yahoo.com Hebrews 12:29 "for our God is a consuming fire." 1Peter 1:6-8 "In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy." • Christians, how would you describe a pastor's role in terms of authority?

Ok, most people would agree that a pastor is a spiritual leader/authority? But the question is how would you describe the pastor's role?

How much authority do/should they have and what is that supposed to look like?

Is there role (or should it be) more academic (teaching God's word), or personal (getting personally involved in the lives of people) or professional (like a boss as we the church are servants)?

    Or is it something else?

What should people expect from their pastor, and also what should they give their pastor in return (Should people submit to their pastor, and if so how?) ?

    Explain your thoughts and why?

Also any scriptural references would really help.

    Thanks much.

  • How can I get my dog to eat her dog food?

When my dog was a puppy I was told to always keep food and water in her kennel, so I did that and it worked fine (she is only in her kennel to sleep and when my husband and I are at work). She ate her dog food and when my husband and I ate, we would give her a little of what we ate as a treat for being good. We would give her healthy things like fruits, vegetables, lean meat, etc. and only in very small amounts. The problem is now that she's discovered other things, she does not want to eat her dog food. If we have food, she'll beg and act like she's starving (because she won't eat her dog food). If she barks we won't give it to her. She even tries to eat the cat's food, and she tries to go in the cat's litter box and eat what's in there.

My husband and I tried changing her food. Both types of food we got her are good quality puppy foods. We also tried getting her a new food dish and putting it in the kitchen, so she can eat where the cat eats, and she seems to understand the concept. I don't think it's that she doesn't like the puppy food. I think she just wants what everyone else has (The grass is always greener kind of a thing). Anyway, I've started not giving her anything unless I see that she has eaten her food first. Also when she begs we direct her to her food.

I don't really mind giving her other food. In fact it's kinda more convenient for me if I give her table food because we always have extra and it seems healthy and better than wasting it. I'm just concerned because doesn't she need the dog food?

Also she is almost 7 months old, has a healthy weight and coat. She also behaves very well and is generally loving and obediant (for a puppy).

  • Seriously...what happens when a female dog goes into heat?

Despite hearing horror stories, I couldn't bring myslef to spay my dog yet, and she's right at 6 months. (She was born 6/21/08). I'm just wondering what is supposed to happen when she goes into heat. So far she has gotten a little lazier (but that might be because it's winter and because it gets dark sooner she doesn't get out as much as before). I did notice her "cleaning herslef" more, and when we went walking she either peed or "marked" twice in front of a certain fence, knowing there was another dog on the other side of it. But other than that she's still sweet. There's been no barking or howling or messes. She's hyper and excited by nature, but also good and obediant. Will that change?

  • Christians (or anyone)...What is the value in waiting...?

Today at church my pastor was preaching about the whole Christmas story, and placed emphasis on the fact that, at the time, the world was dark and hopeless, and how man was waiting for the Messiah, and then of course God sent Jesus and was glorified.

Anyway, she went on to emphasize the value in waiting, and how God often uses hopeless situations and does something big and wonderful. (She gave other examples and talked about God making and keeping promises.) So my question is this....Why all of the drama? What exactily is the point, or the value in having to wait and wait for something? How is merely waiting for something supposed to make it so much better? And why do people seem to think that way?

  • Is it wrong that I don't want to go to Christmas parties?

I'm getting so tired of them. It's come to the point where I just want the holidays to be over so I don't have to go to "fake" Christmas parties anymore and I can get back to just hanging out and being real.

  • Christians, a question about evangelism...?

Ok, as Christians we've all heard about the importance of evangelism. My question is this. Should evangelism be something that is "pushed" and something that requires hard work, and planning/strategy sessions and things like that? Or should it be something that just comes natural and really doesn't require extra effort on our part because it is God/ The Holy Spirit working in us and through us all of the time?
