What to people wear in like 1989 and why was it such a trend?

In 1989, we wore acid washed jeans, tightly rolled of course, and baggy. I remember big shirts and sweatshirts. We wore these stupid "leg warmers" that were scrunched up at the ankles. Stirup pants and shirts like babies' onesies that snap at the crotch. (OMG---I can't believe I wore those things! I was 14.)

People wore blue jeans with wholes cut and torn all in them. They wore multicolored sock arrangemensts. There were oversized hair bows, hats ribbons and just about anything else that you can think of. Some women wore scrunchies (Things for your hair) at the bottom of their shirts as a fashion statement. Oversized shirts and undersized pants were really big back then. (and still are in some parts of the country) They wore too much make up and definately had too much hairspray.

The biggest movie of the year was Pretty Woman

plaid was coming in.. florescent colors with high tops and slouchy socks were going out.. baggier clothes were starting to be big.. and i think it may have been the time when spandex with a big shirt was in...
