I'm here to help (hopefully) and get help through my life experiences, things I have seen (whether good or bad), and advice I have been given.

  • I need an easy way to cook chicken breasts. I have no grill. Suggestions?

I'm just looking for a way to cook up the chicken so I can use them later. I have most common seasonings on hand - but don't want to cook them with anything other than the seasonings..

  • I need Digital SLR help!?

I'm VERY interested in purchasing a lower priced DSLR.. but I really don't know what to be looking for. I'm a beginner with SLRs, but know quite a bit about a basic digital camera. Which features really carry over into the SLR's? What is something I may not know of, that might make a difference with the SLR? I'm looking at the lower grade canons and nikons.

    Thanks.

  • I need some help with a bridesmaid?

This may not make too much sense.. I copied it from another post.. I asked this elsewhere and thought you girls may have a different take..

So I'm not really sure what to do about this BM of mine.

She's my best friend (and admittedly a little flaky) but she keeps blowing off some of our dress try on sessions.. She's been out with me twice (and no, we haven't found anything we like yet).

I made the decision that we'll all go one more time, and then it's just me and my sister, and we're making the decision if we don't find anything this last time.

So we're supposed to be shopping this Saturday, and she can't make it. This really means a lot to me, and I don't know how to get through to her. We've had these conversations before and I just can't seem to get through.

My FI wants me to have her back out, and I just can't see getting married without her (although I do have some friends that could fill in)..

    Any advice?

Some other things thrown in there: She is VERY self conscious and constantly calls herself fat, or a fatty.. and things seem to turn up just before so she can't go. I give my girls 2 weeks (at least) for work, etc. She did this to a show I went to two weeks ago too..

I just want to make sure everyone understands where I'm coming from.

This girl is my best friend, and she would be my MOH if it wasn't for my sisters (I had a VERY difficult time choosing and am not 100% pleased with the choice I did make). And I will NOT be firing her, no matter what the FI says.. that part is up to her. Everyone in my party will have equal say in everything. I can't expect my 21 year old little sister to plan everything on her own.

It's not the dress shopping that I'm really concerned about. I want her to go so we can hang out and have fun, my sisters are both skinny and try on all the dresses anyway.. One sister is built just like her (only smaller) and the other is build like me (and the other BM who's out of town).

I'm really more concerned that she'll be conveniently "unavailable" when it comes to more important aspects, and really don't know how to handle it. Yes, I'm talking about parties, but I'm also talking about putting together programs, favors, etc. All the duties that (even though some say it's just showing up) make up being a bridesmaid. It's about sharing your day with you, yes, but it's also about all the bonding and little things.. helping you plan along the way. And it really hurts me that she isn't willing to do that for me, and that things "suddenly" come up after she finds out something has been planned. I'm really worried about what else she'll miss out on. I would be there for EVERYTHING for her.. but that's just the type of person I am..

  • Gifts to the bride/groom..?

So I've seen people ask what the traditional gift to give to the groom is, and there's an overwhelming response: A watch.

What is the traditional gift for the bride? My FI is struggling on what to get me, and I him, as I doubt he'll wear a watch!

  • Question about Placecards?

    Hi All,

I am planning on making "movie ticket" place cards, where the "ticket" is to the "movie" (table) you are going to see. Does anyone know where I can get paper for this? I can design the "tickets" myself, but I need the right type of paper to print on.

I'm thinking of something similar to the ticketmaster ticket type paper. OR does anyone know where I can get cardstock paper meant to fold in half?

    Thanks much!

  • How many people came to your Friday wedding?

We're getting married next July, 3pm wedding, 6pm reception. If you had a Friday wedding, how many people did you invite, and how many showed to the ceremony and reception?

  • My friend is designing my wedding invitations and I'm curious about pricing?

As I said, my friend is designing my invitations. They're pretty standard, square outer envelopes that fold up with a pouch, the top part is for the invite, bottom for the RSVP, etc. She'll be assembling them, printing the invitations and cutting the paper, and there's a slight chance she'll be addressing the invites (but I think I'd rather print them on the envelopes).

I will be purchasing a wax seal and sealing the inner envelopes with that, along with just a basic sticker seal for the outers. A friend of the family has volunteered to put the names on the inners in calligraphy for free.

What do you think it should cost me? I'm supplying the paper and envelopes.

  • Photographer Issue - What would you do in this situation?

Bear with me please.. I know it's long..

I signed a contract with my photographers company back in early May for two photographers on the day of my wedding. I was given options as to who I wanted, and gave the person I was speaking with two choices for each of my photographers. She told me it would take a few weeks to "confirm" my photographers. I never heard anything one way or another, and assumed I was good to go. For reference's sake, I had asked for Rosemary or Gary AND Courtney or Kate.

Fast forward to the end of July. I was at our ceremony location and looking for good places to shoot.. and wasn't having too much luck. So I call my photographer (the company) and ask if they have anywhere to suggest. She says she'll have my photographer call me. I get a call the next day from Joe.. and I'm a little confused. I talk to the girl I've been working with and she tells me Gary is unavailable, Rosemary is not taking pictures anymore, and Kate moved to Oregon. So she gave me a bunch of other (not as good) portfolios to look at, and we chose the best of the bunch (in our opinion, of course). Met with him, and think he'll do a decent job.

In the meantime, I feel the company owes us for the lack of communication and for causing us more stress. Yesterday, I was e-mailing back and forth with the customer service supervisor. She apologized and said that unfortunately, they won't give us anything to compensate for their mistake. They'll take the blame, but that's about it. I asked her for an extra hour with our photojournalist, and a few of the hand touched images. She e-mailed me back, telling me what was on my contract and that I got a great deal (I did), and then said she was willing to talk about "the option of allowing you to find happiness elsewhere."

What would you do? We're happy with the photographers we have, but are unhappy with the company. I've received warnings from a friend of my who got their pictures done with the same company, after I signed the contract. Her complaint was a bit different, it had to do with the time it took to get her album, but it's still a concern of mine.

Do you think I'm asking too much? or should I see what else is out there?

  • What would you think if you got a gift from this site?

Someone on here introduced me to exboyfriendjewelry.com a few months ago. How would you feel, as a bridesmaid, if I purchased something from there for you? Other than the fact it came from a bad relationship (most of the time) it allows me to spend the same amount I am planning on spending and getting you something of a potentially higher quality, and I get this out of someone's hands.

I'm thinking of getting designer purses/bags or similar, rather that something cheezy and personalized (literally) and then filling them with things they could use every day, rather than on my wedding day only.

If you don't like the idea.. what kind of stuff would you like?

  • My fiance's friend didn't register just so he would get cash...?

What should I get them? I really don't like to give cash, and would typically buy off the registry. I know they don't need the typical things.. He's moving into her house after they get married..

  • Any questions I should ask a florist?

Other than the basic contract details? I know virtually nothing about flowers and am just starting to meet with some florists..

Also, I love the rose petals down the aisle look.. Does anyone know where I can find something similar and still keep the look?

Please help with this question too! I posted it yesterday and got no answers..

  • What questions do I need to ask my photographer?

I've booked the company already, this is the meeting with the actual person who will be taking pictures at my wedding (which isn't until July). What questions do I need to ask him? Obviously, I'll be asking to see his portfolio, just to make sure he does what I"m looking for, but what else?

  • Thinking about doing a candy bar?

I found this website in one of my bridal magazines. I don't know how the prices compare, but you can get everything in one spot.

    http://www.economycandy.com/

If you know of any other places, feel free to post (or tell me this place is a rip-off!)

    Thanks!

  • I have my first meeting with my photographer next week. What questions should I ask?

I met with the company a ways back, so I don't have too many questions there. What will we be talking about? What do I need to know that I may not know?

Please help with my other questions too.. Thanks!
