Why Yahoo did not organise an auction column like eBay?
All Yahoo auctions are manipulated by only a few sellers and their ad are by the same sellers selling the same things. Yahoo being such a big organisation, I am quite sure Yahoo are able to find sources like Jewelry which happen to be the best profit for all auction companies. Why allow eBay control these type of profit making auction? As eBay is everywhere around the world, so is Yahoo. Auction company like Amazon and Overstock has not open up their market all over the world yet, maybe they are very contented with the present market that they have. But Yahoo.com covers three quater of the world, why not take action now? I am waiting for the day that Yahoo announce that they have expanded their auction to the public from sellers all over the world with different type of products and not just fish tanks, cosmetics, etc....
Can Yahoo give a thought to this suggestion?

This can be a long story. First, Internet auction has a phenomena where the bigger gets even bigger and at the end it leaves no market for a second player. Yahoo's auction early on was not too far away from eBay in terms of number of listings and it also had PayDirect as an online payment like PayPal. However, auction wasn't the only business for Yahoo, unlike eBay, Yahoo didn't capture the market aggressively. Then, once the gap was formed, there was no way back. Yahoo did try several strategies - none worked. As you can imagine if you want to sell, you want to sell at a place where attract more buyers, and if you want to buy, you want to buy at a place where there are lots of sellers. This is now called an 'eBay effect'.
Currently Yahoo Auction is the leader in several Asian markets,
notably, Japan and Taiwan. Why? because Yahoo established the presence there ahead of the competitors and captured the market. While eBay successfully captured the US and European market, it simply couldn't do much to take over Yahoo's position in Asian, and about 3 years ago, eBay admitted their defeat in Japan and gave up the attempt there.
Now you can understand why these companies invest so much in China - another big market to be consolidated - winner takes all.

Yahoo USA has an auction site. There used to be one on Yahoo UK, but it closed about 4 years ago as it proved unprofitable (it was entirely free to use and I loved it almost as much as I don't like e-bay who charge like a wounded rhino).
