I know nothing about the FIFA World Cup. Can anyone explain what it is and who you think will win?

It is the biggest single sport event in the world. It will be viewed by billions. FIFA world cup is for the best Football(aka Soccer to us Japanese, Americans, and Canadians)

The Brazilians are ranked #1 with the best players in the world but nothing is guaranteed.

It's an international league that takes place every four years. 32 countries participate but only one team will show the world that they are better than the rest. Each round is a knock out stage. At the end of 1st round 16 teams will go home. 8 teams will go home after second round and the remaining 8 will battle in the quaterfinals. Only four teams will head to the Semifinals and finally two teams will battle for a chance to win the world cup.

Usually the hosting country is decided by fifa ahead of time like the next worldcup will be South Africa 2010. Brazil has been doing well but i don't know if they will win this year's world cup.

I'm new it all this too but my advice to you is....join in a world cup pool.....place a friendly bet with friends or co-workers....that's the fastest way to learn about the world cup and about the sport....I did that last world cup and this time....I'm running an office pool with a bunch of women in it....lol. It's all for fun but you should hear the trash talking going on. I've got Portugal to win it all this year. Just keep asking questions, it's the best way to learn. Enjoy and good luck!!! :)
