Gas prices too high??? Buy a new car??? Is that the answer???
Yeah.....well, the auto manufacturers are sticking it to everybody too. Let us not forget the $5000, $7000 and $10000 discounts the "big three" were promoting just a short time ago, and are still discounting vehicles. Think for a moment....they were STILL making money! Why does everybody have to have a new car any way? I'm still driving a 20 year old Ford sedan with a V8 that gets 20MPG which was good for it's time. And is still better than many modern V8's. Insurance (full coverage) is only $200 a year. I spend about $40 to $50 a week on gas. The car is long paid for. Now lets think about the cost of a new car every month, add the cost of full coverage insurance on that new car plus the gas every week....even if it is half what I use now. Wait a second...property tax. PLEASE....tell me how long it will take for us to have paid the same amount of money starting now.......How many YEARS will I pay for gas, insurance, maintinance and misc cost before you even pay for your car???????

Ha Ha.Where does one start.
First of all I thought this was a question answer forum, you seem to think its a rant/rave site to publish your opinions.Ever here of blogging that's a good place for the tangents.
Secondly your car is worthless as far as resale value and you failed to mention any inconveniences due to condition or maintenance or replacement parts.I drive a 19 yr old Lincoln I love the car but would be the first to admit it does not compare to a new Lincoln of the same model(which they don't make its a mark7).I have no warranty protection if the motor blew up tomorrow, there are numerous cars that get 10+ miles a gallon better mileage than mine. And the overall condition is good, but it pales to the luster of a brand new Lincoln(of course my cars book value is about 695.00)
There is an argument for staying with your old car but there is also a good argument for a new one.By the way they made profit on our cars when sold new as well, that's stupid of course they make a profit even with incentives that's their business.Resale value, warranty, image, comfort, safety and efficiency are just a few reasons to consider new.Property Tax?
there is no property tax on vehicles its called an excise tax and has nothing to do with property its tax based on value to be used by your state for the roads, signs, payroll for dps and other associated cost. Finally the answer is an alternative fuel which people are working on now, that is the answer supply and demand of oil and the disproportionate rate it is consumed, which has nothing to do with whether you drive a 2006 or a 1987 other than your personal consumption and cost per gallon. We are using more oil than we should be and it puts a strain on the supply, when the demand goes up because countries like china and Europe are using increasing amounts of oil it causes the price to rise. The United states produces 2% or the worlds oil,has 5% of the worlds reserves and uses 25% of the oil produced world wide. Its economics not the year model of your car.
Next time ask a question ,don't deliver your opinion in a speech save that for your own blog.

You are correct about your analysis of the finances associated with driving a newer car. Depreciation is the single biggest cost associated with driving a car. This is why I buy cars that are at least 85% depreciated. My current car I purchased with the idea of saving on fuel costs when I bought it! Last August I purchased a 1998 Ford Escort Wagon 4cyl 5speed. Runs great, averages 34-36mpg every tank, and only cost $2000.00 from a Dealer!
BTW...Those mid-80s Full Size Fords with a 302 with a 4speed automatic are really great cars! My mother had an 86 Lincoln Town Car in the mid 90s and she loved it! averaged 25mpg hwy and 20 city!

That could save you some money. A small car or a hybrid. But don't believe the hype on the hybrids, they don't do as well as many manufacturers say they do. I think Honda or Toyota is going to get in touble about this soon, because instead of getting milage in the 50's, they're actually getting around 35. You just can't beat physics.

In Sydney, we are paying about $1.50 per litre for fuel and it is hurting our car industry. Our two largest car makers, Ford and Holden (GM) are starting to feel it too.
As most of our family cars are either big six cylinder or big V8's, people are trading there cars in on smaller models. Ford have taken the benefit of LPG to the next level, and are building Ford Falcons with dedicated LPG. These cars cost about $1500 more than their petrol counterparts, but it is recovered in the first 2 to 3 years. Our LPG is at a price of around 60 to 70 cents per litre at the moment.
With our interest rises and low wages, the Sunday drive is becoming a thing of the past. To fill my Ford Falcon FPV Typhoon, it costs me on average $85 to $95 per fill. This lasts me about 5 days. This time 2 years ago, it was about $55 to $60 to fill.

The answer is .....
drive slower, no lead foot, use cruise control as much as possible, combine trips, etc.
Those that NEED a new car every few years are just mindless saps who buy into all the advertising. Now don't get me wrong, I like having those mindless individuals around as it keeps me in business.
Don't worry about what the Jones's are doing......they just waste their money to be "in fashion".

If you are really concerned about the price of gas then join in on the fight to decrease fuel cost. Its real simple, mpg gas caplet???
EPA registered, FTC monitored, and fully guaranteed. cost factor $1.65 per 20 gallons of fuel. want to take a free mileage test.
three tanks to show you how easy it is. go to www.asavingsongas.myffi.biz 7%-14% increased miles per gallon.

I drive a 10 year old pickup truck with 230,000 miles on it.
The only people who are buying new cars all the times are suckers who buy into the advertising. :-)
