    I'll chime in, too.

The limits at all levels are there for a reason. For the lower levels, it's an opportunity to learn how the site works, to prevent spam, and to protect users from themselves. There are probably some well-meaning people that just don't quite 'get it' during their early days on the site. They could unknowingly rack up enough violation notices for unintentionally bad behavior that their account would get suspended. The limit on points also reduces this likelihood.

As far as the math is concerned, there are a couple of things to keep in mind,

-First and foremost, the 'score this week' detail is incorrect. It has been glitchy since the last upgrade. I can assure you that I have not earned more than 6000 points this week.

This is evident with just a little bit of investigation .. take a look at the overall leaderboard. That reflects a moment in time on Monday when the Yahoo servers tally the scores for the prior week. I was at 81,879. Now look at the score on my profile page under "Kevin's points" It reads 84,147. That's a difference of 2268 points, not 6600. Doing the same for Jane shows that she's earned 2581 points so far, not the 2991 that is currently displayed on her profile page.

So the only thing "crooked" here is the Answers display of points.

    - Many of us at the higher levels do tend to perform all of our rates and votes per day, and have done so for quite some time.

    - Many of us also have good best answer percentages, and have been earning them for some time. Those historical best answer will continue to earn points (up to 50 each) as people give them thumbs up.

    - Early on the site (before I got here) people _earned_ points for asking questions.

    - Levels 5, 6, 7 had UNLIMITED rates and votes per day.

    - We may 'only' be getting 50% best answer ratios, but we have a lot of answers and a lot of best answers. Those best answers continue to return a few points now and then, even months later, as people give them a thumbs-up.

I have had a sneaking suspicion that some people have figured out a way to do this through some sort of software, or have managed a way to get into the workings of Yahoo Answers and with a few mouse clicks can generate hundreds of points. The logistics of getting 1,000 or 2,000 points a day are a little hard to comprehend. You would have to be answering questions at the rate of one every ten seconds 24/7, and I can't imagine how that is possible.

If you look at Kevin, the top scorer on the leaderboard, he has over 6,200 points so far this week, which works out to over 3,000 points a day, and if he sleeps 6 hours a day and spends the other 18 hours on this thing and does NOTHING else, not even stopping to eat or pee, that is an average of 166 points an hour. If that is all answers then he is answering at the rate of 1 question every 45 seconds, non-stop for 18 hours. Now, if you look at his best answers, the data shows he is running at 49% best answers, yet when you look at his best answers, only 2 or 3 show up as in the past day, when there should be at least 1500. Something is VERY crooked here. I think they have found a way to cheat bigtime by cracking the program and spinning the points ahead by hundreds or thousands.

Source(s): No animals or plants were harmed in the answering of this question. Any similarity with any person, living or dead, is purely coincidental and unintended.

    1. Kevin and I have both been here since January, answering almost daily.

    2. We have both long since passed level five, at which point you have an unlimited number of daily answers.

    3. We both tend to write good answers and have a high best answer percentage.

    4. We vote and rate daily.

    5. We have each accumulated thousands of best answers over the months, allowing for thumbs up ratings to still come in frequently.

By the way, when I checked recently, Kevin had made a little over two thousand points this week which is nowhere near 2 to 3 thousand per day.

If you noticed on the explination for the point system it is unlimited for people who are level 5 or higher. But their votes and rates are always the same so those never change.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

NO! When you get to level 5, there is no more answers limit!

80,000 points?! Whoa, that's kindda long way to go, but I guess when you keep on answering, voting, and rating for the best answer (I mean, you'll use all your credits per day, everyday), you'll sure overpass that score...

asking questions, voting on, etc. I am on level 6. I have reached my ability on them. All I can do is ask and answer.

  • 2 decades ago

Because not only do they answer questions, but they vote on answers and they stick to specific topic's that they are knowledgable about...they go for the ten points, instead of the two....by the way, thanks for two more on my way to 80,000.
