  • Why is my laptop's LCD display not working even though there's no crack in it?

Today I went to turn my laptop on and the light in the display came on (it looks like a gray-purple when looked at slightly from the top) but the log-in screen didn't pop up after a few seconds like it usually does. There are no cracks in the LCD (I already checked) and everything else with the laptop is fine. I'm actually using the laptop right now but it's hooked up to an external monitor. I was thinking that maybe some wire came loose inside or something weird along those lines but any ideas as to what's going on?

Also, in case it's of any use, the laptop in question is an HP Pavilion dv4-1430us. The battery has lost some charge and as far as I know the antivirus/spyware systems are functioning.

  • Why is my PC not playing music when I just had audio not even half an hour ago?

I'd tried everything that I can think of; I have an HP with a mute button but it's not the mute button and it's not the music player or anything like that. When I checked out the mixer there were a lot of programs that were apparently somehow connected to IE but which weren't using any audio space. I think this is somehow more simple than I think it is but I just can't figure this one out.

  • What is the address where the Cheshire CT home invasion happened?

I lived in Cheshire for 2 years and I was wondering if anyone knew the address of the Petit's house. We're also going to be covering this topic in my class about day to day news in college and I wanted to know where in town this happened. I think I remember it's fairly far away from the prison in town but I wanted to make sure

  • Which is the better college: Franklin and Marshall College or Northeastern University?

I'm just curious which one people say is better. I'm already enrolled in college and not looking to transfer so this won't impact any enrollment statuses or anything like that.

Franklin & Marshall is a small, liberal arts school in Lancaster PA with a total enrollment just over 2,000. It's typically regarded as a very tough school to get into but the College Board's site says that they have an acceptance rate of 48%. Graduates typically have a good foundation in all subjects although they're arguably most known for their pre-med program but grads are typically left on their own for grad school since there's nothing on-campus for them. Lancaster is a beautiful place but F&M students often complain that the town is boring and they have to go well outside of the local community to get jobs. School spirit is moderate mostly due to the school's academic reputation. Here's the link to the College Board's page for Franklin & Marshall: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/Colle...

Northeastern University is a large, research-based university located on the meeting point of the Back Bay, Fenway and Roxbury neighborhoods in Boston MA. It has a total enrollment of slightly over 15,500. Northeastern is known for its co-operative educational experience in which students typically split their last 3 years, spending 6 months each in classes and in an intership-like position but students often feel overwhelmed by the number of opportunities and discouraged when they don't get any call backs with all of those opportunities. Although most students receive co-op positions and typically continue with those same companies after graduation they tend to specialize in their strengths due to undergraduate research and fairly tightly defined coursework. Boston is often regarded as one of the most fun and exciting cities in the country but in many cases it can get too fun. School spirit is moderate due to a mix of up-and-coming sports such as men's hockey and men's basketball, the co-op program and a good reputation academically. • Should I call this potential employer who interviewed me a week ago?

Please read the whole scenario before answering, everything is relevant here.

Here's what's gone on: I went in for an interview last Tuesday for a summer mate/bartending job that I found on Craigslist and during the whole interview process the interviewer only asked me 2 general questions and both were about my Eagle Scout. Also, at no point before, during or after the interview did he ask for any references. Just today I found that the job has been reposted on another site but it said that the job had 8 openings. What should I do from here?

  • In what Family Guy episode does Ollie Williams say "Everybody looks like ants!"?

I could swear I know this episode and I think it's a pretty popular one but it's just eluding me right now.

  • Can I get custom ringtones for each contact on my Blackberry?

I just wanted to know if I could assign one contact one song but have another file play when another contact calls and stuff like that. I'm 90% sure you can do this on an iPhone but can it be done on a Blackberry?

Also, just in case it's important I have a Tour 9630.

  • For current/former bartenders: do/did you like bartending and would you recommend it as a side job?

I'm currently a full-time college student in Boston and I was considering picking up bartending as a side job, maybe 2 nights a week and then going full-time over my summer break. I've had some typical teenager jobs like cashiering at a major pharmacy chain and lifeguarding at an amusement park but I haven't found anything I've really liked but I was thinking that with bartending I would have some opportunity to be creative while making really good money vs. amount of time worked. I guess I should ask what really are the pros and cons of bartending? Thanks!

  • What's the name of this Springsteen/Petty style song that includes the phrase "Baby let's keep in touch"?

I thought it was "Born to Run" but I just can't come up with the right song. The line might have been at the end of a verse and it definitely wasn't in the chorus. It was definitely sung in that kind of freestyle tone that both artists us but I'm pretty sure it was Springsteen.

  • If a person has non-genital warts would they test positive for HPV?

I know a person who has a wart on their hand and one on their foot and I know that genital warts is an indicator that a person is infected with HPV but I was wondering would those non-genital warts be a sign of HPV infection?

  • Is there a website where I can search for a college's job offering rate after graduation?

I know it's a common stat that college comparison websites and sources like to use but for some reason I can't seem to find anything online. I'd like something online but I'm specifically looking for the job offer rates for Northeastern University and Boston University both in Boston MA. Thanks!

  • Is it safe to use Lysol on an electric guitar?

I spilt some juice on my electric guitar and I thought that had wiped most of it off but as it turns out I missed some in tight spaces on the body and in places along the fretboard and now it hardened up and is all sticky. I know that Lysol would get that stickiness out but would it ruin the finish on the guitar or would it affect the strings, electronics or anything else with the guitar?

  • What's this Metallica song?

I constantly hear some Metallica song but for some reason I've never heard the name of it. It starts off with an acoustic guitar (at least the version that I heard does) and it goes into a riff that kind of sounds like "One" with the guitar effects. I think the verses are set up in 6 lines with 2 shorter lines followed by a longer one for each verse.

  • As a college student should I be Michael Jackson or a police officer for Halloween?

I am a college student so a police officer would be a good choice but for a long time I've also been thinking about being Michael Jackson because I have a running tradition of dressing up as famous people who died between the upcoming Halloween and the previous one.

  • Do you think that someone got swept off the stack of the Wizard on Deadliest Catch?

If you saw yesterday's episode of "Deadliest Catch" on the Discovery Channel you probably recall the time when the crew of the Wizard was setting up a tarp on the front of their stack of pots right at the end of the episode and they wanted to abort the whole thing and then a huge wave swept over the whole stack and overtook whoever was on top of the stack. At that point everything on the screen went white which was of course edited in.

They definitely set it up to look like they'd gone overboard and in preview ads for the episode they had shown a person in the water getting rescued by the Coast Guard.

Personally I'm split on it: the visual evidence that the Discovery Channel provided definitely looked like he got swept overboard but then again why would they show video of a person's final moments so early since the incident happened this past January?

    Any ideas or input?
