Do you close the door of a Hotel room when you check out or leave it open?

I was wondering what people do in different countries and also would like some idea of why they leave the door open or lock the room

THE ANSWER TO THAT IS I DEFINTELY CLOSE THEM!!!!I REFUSE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES THAT WAS INCURRED BY SOMEONE ELSE!!! SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO DESTROY OTHERS PROPERTY WITH THE INTENTION OF MALICE! NOT SECURING YOURSELF, BY MAKING SURE THE DOOR IS CLOSED, HOLDS YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES THAT THEY FIND WHILE CLEANING YOUR ROOM!!!!

Shut the door and hand back key personally just incase someone trashes the room after you leave the door open.

In just about every hotel room I have encountered, the door locks automatically when you shut it. Most of them shut automatically too. The housekeepers have master keys to all rooms so they can get in them no matter what. It's not really a cultural thing at all in the US.

I close the door since the people who would need to get in, the hotel staff, all have keys.

i close the door, but in most hotels they prefer the door left open so it is easier for their cleaners to go in and refreshen the room before the guests.
