My son rarely watches television at all. He will come and go when Sesame street is turned on, and he likes Teletubbies, but he's limited to a half hour a day of total tv time and he doesn't seem to mind one bit. He's content to spend most of the day putting puzzles together, looking at his books, and playing ball or trucks outside. Of course he's the easiest kid I've ever seen, he loves mixed veggies and goes to bed on his own without issue at eight-thirty every night. He even refuses to eat junk foods like chicken nuggets or macaroni and cheese, and only likes whole wheat bread. I'm expecting my second child, due in February, and don't think I could possibly get lucky twice, so I try to enjoy how easy-going Ethan is. I don't think tv should be used as a baby-sitter though. Kids thrive in an evironment where they get lots of one-on-one parent interaction. Maybe the occasional video if you just can't get a shower otherwise, or have to make dinner, but it should be a once in a while thing.

I feel that what is more important than how much as long as they are still active. My son plays with the TV as background noise once in a while he might watch for a few minutes. I will not let him watch Teletubbies or anything like that. The reason is they do baby talk...grrrr. We do not want to teach our children baby talk. If a show can not teach them verbal skills the they are not worth it. Other shows like Dora and Diego teach them Spanish. Which is wonderful since the easiest time for a person to learn a second language is when they are very young. It has been proven that children that learn a second language learn easier later in life. Regardless I have no problem with TV and think that it is just one more learning tool as long as you do not let your child become a couch potato.

He only watches TV on the weekends. He goes to preschool during the day. We don't typically get home until around 6:30. Since the other kids have homework we make him sit at the table and color or something until dinner. They all go to bed before 9. It's not because I think TV is bad we just usually don't have time.
I think Nogin is good as well as some of the things on Discovery Kids and PBS Kids.

i would say way too much! my daughter is 2 and a half yrs old and first thing she says in the morning is "i watch a movie?" (with a big smile on her face) I have been telling her "NO" and that she doesn't always need to watch a movie or cartoons everyday all day long, and that i would like to watch some tv too! She gets mad about it and sometimes i have a bad habit of giving in, especially when i need to get things done around the apartment! The bad habit of watching too much movies or tv all day, started when i lost my cable last yr, so we watched movies all the time and since i got my cable back she still just wants to watch all of her movies all day! since i've been back to work, she still wants to watch her movies after i get out of work! I do interact with her and play girly stuff with her and teach her new things to try to get her mind and focus off the tv for a while, but......*i want my tv back* LOL

Actually I allow my children (4 & 2) to watch as much tv as they want. Providing that I am in control of the programs that they watch.
I think that tv now could be used as a learning tool for children.
I let them watch, Dora, Little Einstein, Barney, Sesame Street & some selected children's Songs. All of which have helped my children to memorise songs, count, say the alphabet & help with their communication skills.

It's a little embarrassing, but the TV is on all day (set to PBS) at our house. My 3 yr old doesn't sit in a hypnotic state watching it, it's really just like background music. She plays and looks up at it occasionally, but you wouldn't believe how much stuff she has picked up. I think it's more important what they're watching than how long.

we try to keep it at between 1 and 2 hours per day or less. My daughter likes Noggin which has preschool shows from 6AM to 6 PM and Playhouse Disney which has preschool programs from 6am to 12pm. She also likes some disney movies and when she was 2 LOVED the Wiggles music videos. Now she's into the Beatles!!

My babies watched tv. I let them watch it all day long. They are older and normal. Do good in school.....
I never set limits on TV. It's a good learning tool also

We have chosen not to own a TV, since we both feel that life is far more educational than anything my daughter could watch on a box.
So, my daughter is not yet 2 but when she is, she will watch none. Except when she's at her grandparents. I can't control that.
