How do you decide if it is the right time to have a baby?

Update:

I know there is no "perfect time" but I am a waiter, meaning I always try to do things the "right"way. Graduated college, got married, started a career. I just don't know if I could do it. I am scared to death.

At the moment the baby enters the world it is 'the right time'..lol. Probably the most politically correct way is to finish university, build a career, buy a house, travel, drive nice cars, then marry and start having babies. Trouble is-you are most fertile and your eggs are at their best in your late teens and early 20's. Some women who follow the career path find that by their late 20's and early 30's when they have done everything and are ready for children, discover they have fertility issues by then and require assistance to have their family. Frankly, it would be nice to be financially stable etc..but I really don't think you are ever ready, but when it happens it is wonderful. I do think having a partner who is committed to you and your future children is the way to go though. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I believe the "right time" to have a baby is after you get married. :0) Don't worry about being nervous, or wondering if you will be a good parent. The Bible says "Children are an heritage of the Lord" and "happy is the man that hath his quiver full". Children are a blessing. My husband and I have four and we love them dearly. We make mistakes sometimes, but we learn from them and we always apologize to our kids if we do mess up. You may have all the doubts in the world now, but when you hold your child in your arms, it is a feeling beyond description.

I totally agree that there is no "right" time to have a baby. The right time is whenever you do. If you have established your career, and are happy in your marriage, it sounds like a great time to expand your family. Remember fertility decreases with age.

The age old answer to that question is: If everyone waited for the right time to have a baby, no one would ever have children.

You talk about it. You consider finances, living conditions, whether you are really ready emotionally, other family considerations, work, and anything else you can think of.

Then you stop thinking and follow your heart. If you wait until everything is *perfect*, you'll never have kids.

I wasn't able to decide when I wanted a baby. It was more like "surprise you are pregnant." Both times! What great surprises!

There will always be a reason not to do it, but you have to make a choice like that with your partner, not random people on the internet.

If you have the means, it's the right time to adopt.
