Gamecube--Japanese vs American?

What is the difference? Can an American unit be converted to play Japanese games?

It's possible to make the conversion, but you have to break the Gamecube down into it's parts and remove the large heat sink from the processor and do a bit of soldering. After doing all that work, you should consider making it use a switch to change states, because it is a bit of a hassle.

You could just use a Freeloader instead. They're available on a few web sites. The link is below. If you're not comfortable soldering in your Gamecube, the Freeload is the way to go.

I don't know if they look the same, but if the system is region free, you can import a Japanese console to play their games. Or you can import games on the American system from Japan. As far as I know, the GC is region free, so Japanese games will work on our systems.
