Are there any good ways or tools to help morbidly obese people bathe themselves?
Serious answers please. I have a friend who is extremely obese and in a wheel chair. She has a significant problem with body odor, her clothes are always dirty and her hair is always dirty. She is really smart and a wonderful person and everyone who meets her really likes her. We sometimes go places together and her smell is at times overpowering and her personal appearance doesn't match the intelligent, put-together woman that she is. Surely there has to be a way for her to get clean. I imagine that she doesn't clean herself because it is too difficult. The degree of her obesity is to the point that her belly goes down past her knees. Does anyone know how morbidly obese people clean themselves? Are there any special tools or modalities? Also, what would be a good idea on how to bring this up to her? We are very close.
I am not asking a question that requires judgement about her obesity or character. She has a medical condition.

I am also very obese, I weigh close to 700lbs. Hygiene is a great challenge when you are this big but also manageable. I utilize several items I got from the website Amplestuff.com, like extended sponges and oversized towels, and also some supplies from a medical supply store, including a bidet for toilet cleaning, a sturdy shower bench, and an extended shower head. I do require some assistance so my wife will assist with making sure I am completely dry and powdered to avoid infections. It is not by any means fun, but the effort is worth it. I know that people judge me as a very very large person already, so I believe I need to give them as little to target about me as possible. I hope this helps!

I find big gals in the pool at my apts all the time. Although it is kinda gross, I think the chlorine kills all the bacteria and stuff. Playing in the water will help her loose weight too. If a pool is not an option, call a handyman or contractor to install a big jacuzzi tub with jets in her bathroom. If she cant afford it, I guess you will just have to sponge her down. You seem to be a good friend and i dont envy your position. It is a health concern but at the same time you dont want to offend. Good luck. B)
