Technology is getting better. But would you say that culture is degrading and not improving?
Technology is much much improved. Cell phones and personal computers would have been thought of as science fiction in the 1950's.
Modern Culture (especially western culture) seems to be less polite and seems to be degrading from what was seen in the 50's.
I think it more emulates Rome. Culture become less refined more violent. Rule of the people was done away with. Violent gladiator matches quenched the thirst for blood. I do not think we are at the point though.
Back in the 40's or 50's I'm sure it would have been expected that both would be advancing for the greater good than what they had at the time.
Do you feel culture is improving along with technology or taking the reverse path? And perhaps do you feel the two are tied(I do not)?
I'm very disappointed only 2 answers so far. Is their perhaps some countries where both are improving?

I would say morality is taking a backseat to technology. I don't agree that a decline in morality is due to technological innovation, but you hit the nail on the head with the Rome comparison. History tells us that society as a whole reaches a plateau, then starts to decline.
Good question.

I think every time we take a step forward in technology.... we also step back as well. Many times the new technology is used for evil and gets in the wrong hands.... other times new advances in technology reduce our level of humanity-- e.i.- the internet: very good for intended purposes: info., education., communications, etc.... but just look at all the pedophiles, thefts, hacking, terrorists using it....also-- And --alot of people don't even know their next door neighbors--- they are content to sit at home and talk online to try and change their lonely and meaningless lives.

I agree that it is so. That is an astute observation. I can see that empherically it is so but i am not sure the reason behind it. I dont understand why technological advancement displaces morality. Do you have a theory why?

One of the first signs of a civilization going downhill is loss of manners between people. (civility = civilization)
