Who are some bearded main characters in classic fiction, folklore, or fairytales (before Tolkein)?

I am looking for characters in books that I might have read during the 40s or 50s as a young girl. They could have all sorts of beards.

The Norse god Odin is the first that came to my mind. Wikipedia has a list of famous bearded people, including fictional characters. Maybe it'll help you in your seach.
