I went swimming at the Elora Quarry today. A lot of fun, any quarry's you've been to that you'd like to share?
Elora's got 40 foot cliffs and a sandy beach. There's rocks which you can climb and jump from.
What quarry's have you been to, why would you recommend them? Can you jump off the high cliffs without being hurt?

When I lived in Ohio, there is a place called Nelson's Ledges. Its pretty cool. They have hippy fests out there. They have a really nice beach, ledges to jump off, walking paths in the woods.

The marble quarry in Marble, Colorado is pretty neat. I lived nearby for many years, and we'd drive up the Crystal River valley for picnics quite frequently. It is a beautiful valley.
Across the river from the road was a train track. Along the track there were large blocks of white marble that had fallen from the train in years gone by. When I lived there, the quarry wasn't open, so there were no trains. It has since reopened, I believe.
You could walk around some parts of the quarry, and it was really cool. You could see where they'd placed charges, drilled (with enormous drills) cut HUGE blocks of marble and dragged them across the ground, which was also marble.
In some movie there's a shootout in a large office building. There are square, polished-marble columns in the lobby. When the bullets hit those columns and the facade of marble shattered, I was stunned. There was concrete and rebar underneath! I'd never consciously thought about it (obviously) but I assumed that type of column was solid marble. It was like learning that there aren't any unicorns! <s>

When I was at Alaska we would get these suits to make it feel like we were a polar bear and we got to swim. But sorry i've never been to a quarry.
