My suggestion would be to introduce your child to the computer by directing him/her to your local library. Find a subject your child is interested in--horses, cars, sports, etc. Visit your local library and use the computer to find books that he/she might be interested in. If your local library doesn't have that book, another nearby library might have it and will lend it to your library. You or the libiarian can help your child navigate the library system to find the book your child wants. Most librarys offer computer classes for children and adults to learn basic computer skills.

get the child's interest by games first. Young kids usually are only interested in three things: playing, playing, and playing, so start with games first. And don't watch them like a watchdog, gradually (it may take years, I tell you), they may explore things outside the games.

Be ready to fix the computer many times, if the child may make a mess with the computer. And don't use the computer to store important data.

And you should know that kids learn really quickly, they may exceed you some day.

first, don't push your kid(s) too hard. It takes time for them to accept stuff that they are not familiar with.

Second try searching online for software that will help you introduce usage of the computer I/O devices by kids (Mouse, keyboard)

Third, once you decide what you are going to do, make sure you do it in short intervals, since they (children) can not keep focus for a long periods of time.

Example: You have 6 years old daughter.

Try barbie.com and simple games that they have on-line.

They are fun, and children love it.

After that try drawing, and simple things, like playing the cartoons and let her work on the commands, like Pause, Play, FF and Rew...

    Tell him,

"This is the tool that you will be using 40 to 80 hours a week, while you're sitting in a small, walled - off place called a cubical. Your boss will pay you just enough to keep you from quiting, and the only part of your life you'll enjoy is when you're not at work."

find his/her interest first then find a program that supporthis/her interest. It should not be hard for the child to accept or to introduce computer if he/she can learn more about it. just teach the child some basic computer stuff and you child is ready to use the computer. Maybe your child will even ask for more if you gave him/her interesting topics...
