Imminent hard disk failure?

My computer crashed recently, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, so i decided to repair it myself by restoring it with the CD my computer came with.Everything was OK...Now all of a sudden when I start up my computer i get a black screen that has some code and that the hard disk has detected imminent failure? and it suggests i copy backup files and replace the hard disk...

HELP!

I also get this annoying registry repair that my computer has like 345 errors, but I have to register and pay 40 bucks a month or somrthing to fix this problem...and I have noticed I can't visit any other websites but some yahoo! or others with it "Not Responding"

It's freezing up all the time...

HELP!

Should I just take this to a computer tech to check it out? Or is it time for new cpu?

Do you get the imminent failure message shortly after you turn on your computer (ie before booting into Windows) or after Windows starts booting? If it's before then it's a SMART error message. SMART stands for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology which is used to warn the user of hard drive problems giving you time to back up your files before the drive fails completely. If this is your situation, get a new hard drive immediately. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.00 and do not run any check disk utilities at this point as they can stress your hard drive right into total failure.

If you get the imminent failure message after booting into Windows it might be spyware. In that case the other suggestions on here should help.

Windows has a built in Check disk utility.

Go Start/run and type chkdsk if it finds errors it will prompt to auto fix, I would certainly backup important data you want to keep, restart a couple times and see if the mesage comes back. If so, than replace your hard drive.

Well from the sound of it try some things below before getting to the computer shop.

I have prepared this to aid you. Topics covered are: Anti virus, Anti spy ware, Browsers, e-mail, Word processors, Database, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Drawings and Photo manipulations. All programmes described are free to use, some even for commercial use.

    Antiviral.

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.grisoft.com/

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

    Anti-spyware

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com/

    Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index....

    Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.htm...

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

    Office Applications

Open Office has an extremely good free to use and distribute product at http://www.openoffice.org/

It contains programmes fully functional in Word-processing, Database, Spreadsheets, Drawing and Presentation. It looks and feels like Microsoft Office and can even make PDF's

    Photo-manipulations

For ease of use and management of your photo files try Kodak easyshare software http://www.kodak.com/

    or Picasso. http://.picasa.google.com/

For advanced and fully functional photographic manipulation gimp2 is very similar to Photoshop and is available from http://gimp.org/

    Browsers and E-mail programmes.

Can recommend Firefox for browsing and has many safety features installed and is self updating and for a general e-mail programme, Thunderbird is very good. Go to:

    http://www.mozilla.com/products/

    Fun and helpful programmes

Have a look at Calendar Magic, http://www.stokepoges.plus.com/calendar.htm

it has lots of Scientific, Geometry, Factor and Expression calculators as well as Global distances, Sun and Moon Data, a Pregnancy Calculator, Time Data and Alarm clocks as well as an extremely comprehensive range of Calendars in about 27 different formats from Afghanistan to Vietnamese, including Chinese and Hindu.

    C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

Hope this information is of help to you and others.

BACKUP any important files while you can and get a new hard drive, they are not expensive any more. If you feel a need for another opinion, take your PC to a trusted computer store, Like Best Buy.

Had a similar problem with my laptop. It sounds like the hard drive may have already crashed. You may try hitting one of the function keys (F8,F10,F12, ect....) on start up. It may give you an option for a system restore, which may give you enough time back everything up. You will need a new hard drive though.

Basically, your Hard Drive reached it's limit. You should have your hard disk replaced immediately.
